Yes, definitely heresy.

Balsa Builder. With some foam.

I noosed my Radian so hard in to the mud today. That I saw the fuselage flexing. Feared the worst, but no damage. Just a lot of mud everywhere, inside the plane. If this had been a Balsa model I had to use the garbage bag I always bring along.
Full inspection tonight, and a new lesson to learn tomorrow.

It's all good when you can walk away with what you brought - in one piece!

If a crash is imminent, aim for the mud.

There an official term for that. It's called "Lawn Dart".

Lawn Darts was a very popular backyard game before the CPSC outlawed it, hence the significant increase in sales of RC aircraft, which is very often the same game...

I'm sorry maybe some of the younger folks never played the game. When I was a kid my brother and I used to play "chicken" with them. We would stand at each end and throw them at each other. Those suckers were huge and hurt like a son of a gun if you got hit with one.
How I ever made it through childhood without loosing an eye or major body part is beyond me. Hey, wait a minute. It is like flying RC aircraft.

Actually, I dont quite agree with this...I have nosed my Radian straight in, and several other ways, and only a misshapen nose for my trouble. Same thing with several other foamies. However, Ive also done the same thing with wooden ELECTRICS, and never had one I couldnt fix, and no damage behind the front of the wing. That said, I cant say the same thing about the old nitro powered bricks we used to fly...they tended to turn into powder with a few bent metal pieces mixed in

I looked it up, and apparently the CPSC took action after the third kid died from one of these going into his skull. I can imagine kids throwing them straight up into the air...

Check the CG properly, after strengthen the tail with a couple of rounds with fiber glass tape.
The tail was a bit floppy after earlier flying lessons. But the nice soft snow on my field has now turned in to mud.
