Build Log

Very, very easy, and cheap foamy trainer

It was my first scratchbuilt. It made for 5mm-laminated floor underlay. In Diego Shop can we buy for $10 = 10 sheets. 1 sheet is enough for this aircraft. But maybe use 3-6mm depron too! This aeroplane is a little ugly, but very good and very slowly fly in air. The config is :
Little 20-30g CD-rom motor
2 servos TP-90
4channel reciver
2s 800mAh-s Lipo
GWS 7030 propeller
1 sheet depron about 20X28incs

The video:
HAB TANULÓGÉP REPTETÉS 08.07.11. (2 min 27 sec)

no way, Depron is white . I used kind of this green stuff for a while. then I found out that it is just too heavy and weak, so were my airplanes. They required stiffening with wood or CF, what added weight. all my green planes ended in trash, it wasnt worth repairing them due huge damage. now I bought nice white 4mm thick Depron, will see.

anyway, nice trainer

I found some GREEN foam at HoeDeePoh but it had a heavy clear skin that
was Too heavy and peeled off too easily.
Plus the foam itself was dense and showed way too many manufacturing marks.

This foam looks a bit like something RCFoam is selling.
It has parallel ridges on one side and bends easily, but this is thicker.
Gleie is in HUNGARY. Not likely to have similar stuff in the USA.

Nice effort Gleie and it looks like you have a home brew motor wind too !
Hey, if it flys and you're having FUN then thats a GOOD thing ! :-)

Hello Everybody!

This foam exactly like deprom.
3mm depron=120g/m2
5mm green foam= 175g/m2
6mm depron=220g/m"

When You can't buy the green foam, the depron is good material too for this airplane! When You see the plane you will see this made without wood or CF stiffening, and very easy to make it. I made it 1 afternoon (3-4 hours). I will send the plane, and show how make it, step by step. The AUW is 230g=8oz.

The plane very easy:

After the drawing of the templates, cut out all parts from depron. The bending parts outside cover totally with 2" clear package tape, or decorated folie.

Im from Slovakia (like 200km from Imre) and I can buy original Depron with no trouble, even I was able to get it in the same place like green foam , just slightly more expensive (I bought it at store with building material like wood, waterpipes, tiles etc. Imre, you maybe know HORNBACH store? they are all around Europe I think. Depron is sold as THERMOPLAN, 4mm thick, white).

my green foam broke at much lower bend-tension, compared to depron, worthless unless you use lots CF to prevent bending in-air, and DONT crash . but 3mm thin green foam with is easily bent along those ridges, so its quite good for top wing covering, still have some of this handy .

Hello Richard!

I can buy too depron, but it moor expensive in Hungary, 2sheet cost like green 10 sheet. But for this aircraft good too Depron, 3 - 6mm size.
Please let us step ower the Depron Question! OK? You may build this plane of depron, if you want it! The Diego's foam too depron, but green material! The structure totally so! This breakable too without tapeing.
I will show know-how make my first scratchbuilt aeroplane step by step.
Now I take some photos about building and I will post it to this thread.

7UP Thanks!

Greeting from Hungary!

Gelie: NIce build guide, great pix. Re the green foam, Funperbuck club says "use what ya got (or can get!)" Made my first planes from Owens Corning pink fff from a dumpster, and they flew, taught myself to fly rc with them.
