Build Log

rc microlight/ultralite/trike

hey guys,

ive started work on my rc microlight again,
i havent had much time lately to do anything on it so im gonna hopefully make up for it in the next few weeks!

i still need to do a few bits on the trike and then ill start on the wing,
ive decided on a 'sticks n cloth' wing as i call it lol,
the tubes will be made of cabon rod and the sail will be made of ripstop material,

i wanted to do this build log so people can see how its been/being built and give their advice and experience to try and make it better.

the trike frame is made of alloy square bar- it isnt as heavy as you might imagine and theres alot of ways that it can be made lighter if needed,
if this proves to be too heavy ill probably make it again out of wood.

it has a o.s 25LA engine, hitec HS65MG sevos for wing control and smaller hitec servos for the nose wheel and throttle control.

some of the parts like the forks for the nose wheel are just 'mock up' bits to see how theyll work, itll be test flown and then made properly incase it needs mods.
i dont want to spend too much time making it look nice and then it not fly or even worse crash cus thatd be a waste of time!

this is what im hoping it will look like when its finished!

heres a few pics from the start of the build,
the bracket i made to hold the two frame pieces together and the undercarriage on had been redesigned,
its now two plates as the std bracket didnt hold the two frame pieces as well as id hoped.

thanks anyairrc,

its a gl450 helicopter canopy made by century uk i think?
ive got a couple of t rex's and the canopies didnt look right for this project-
-the intakes are right where you cut so it looked terrible,
i also looked at the blade 400 canopy but that was too angular.

im really happy with how the pod turned out eventually!

Looks really interesting….too bad it’s driven by a stinky, noisy, messy glow motor……

that's a fantastic looking model... if she flies half as good as she looks you'll be fine!

And the glow motor certainly gets a "groovy" from me also! ...the real thing has just an oversized glow motor as it is!

thanks guys,
im gonna try and get it as scale as possible after the test flight (if its successful! ) thats why i used the nitro engine to add a realistic sound.
i agree about them being messy and smelly but you gotta love the noise!

thought id post a few vids of rc microlights,
if mine fly half as well as these two ill be very happy!!

the 3rd and 4th one doesnt fly so good though- maybe a COG problem?
still looks and sounds nice though!

This gas kit might be better off in another Forum ...This is Electric Foamies scratchbuilt.... Here this might be construed as spam...

Time for another motto!
Instead of banning this buildlog, why not use some foam wings instead?
(but to GPW's credit: I was wondering too what this log had in common with electric scratchbuilt foamies. A troll maybe?)

lol im not a troll!

ive sort of wandered off track here
when i read the rc rogallo thread i decided to build one,
i chose to do a nitro one...thinking its still a rogallo i posted it in that thread....now i realise that they were all electrics and my nitro model obviously doesnt belong here

sorry guys ill repost it in a nitro forum
