Wishing it weren't so windy when the weather became warm enough to fly... Oh, and then there's the pollen being blown into my eyes while I'm flying...

Regardless, the flying season is upon us, for those of you that hibernate in the winter. I'll be flying my 40% Giles 202, 29% Giles 202, and 33% Extra 260 this summer. I'm thinking about converting my Cessna 421 to electric as well.

Oliver will be flying his Slow Stick until it can't fly anymore. I converted my old "Kill Bill" Twist 3D to electric and he's going to be flying that as well. Wayne was nice enough to make Ollie a deal on his E-Flite RV-9, so I think he's set for the summer as well.

See you all out there, eh?

HobbyKing Lipo packs

I bought (4) Turnigy 2s1p2200mA 40C lipo packs from HobbyKing back in November and have had good luck with them, for the price. They were $12.99 each and have been good for about 40 flights. Two of these packs have since died (puffed up and will not ballance). The remaining packs still run like new. It's a toss up I suppose but at @25 cents a flight that's pretty good =)

I have had good luck with the Rhino batteries from Hobby King. I would prefer A123's of course, but they are too expensive at the moment. Do you have a good vendor for them??

A123 6s2300 $86 from BP Hobbies

http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id...2&pid=C3882025

$86 for 6sA123 2300................ excellent price! and would be the same as a 5s1p 3300. My packs are still like new with only 50 flights or so each and ballance quickly. So, it all depends on what you consider as expensive. Longer life and no fire risks goes a long way. I'm still in the air when the 1st battery is done on the charger. So, it helps being able to charge them at 10A (200w). My charger of choice is the $150 Hyperion 720i Net3 that charges up to 20A (250w) and ballances 7s.

I paid $120 for each of my 7sA123 packs so the price continues to drop.

Looks like Hobby King has a 6S 4500 LiFe pack for $69, but the reviews say the cells are arriving dead on occasion. Still, not a bad deal: https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dproduct=10311

Have yet to have any of these (30) A123 2300 cells hiccup.

A123 are a different construction. I wondered about using large HobbyKing LiFe packs for a boat but yea, there seems to be a quality problem, but over time there must be several advances in LiFe batteries. It really depends on what you call value.

I had the ability to invest in a good charger and 30 A123 cells the first time. I think $350 for 2x 6sA123 and 720i net3 charger is a lot less than a gas engine.

Yep, I agree with what you said, on all counts there.

I bought out a bunch of A123 cells from TBM when they were selling their large jet Rx packs for cheap. I bought four cell packs for $15. I only bought three but I'm now wishing I had bought more. I haven't seen as good of a deal since. Let me know if you see something on clearance that looks good.

LiPo's are so cheap now and can be discarded if they become questionable. Unless I come across another deal like TBM offered, I'm stuck with LiPo's.

I also found out the other day what happens if you accidentally puncture a fully charged LiPo. Now that I know, I'm not quite as nervous about what may happen. I will be using a LiPo sack in the future, though.

30 Automobiles counted

It was a nice showing and got to visit awhile and see the older kids play with their bigger models. I wish I had a few.
