Bass Plug flying fish wing build log

I got a hair brained idea on the way home from our club meeting a few nights ago. A guy in our club made a p-47 plug minus the canopy and we were all teasing him about it looking like a giant fish lure.

That got me thinking. I love fishing and have always wanted to make a flying fish. How about a flying fish lure plane.

I was going to go with the lost foam method on the fuse and do the wing in blue foam sheeted in balsa. I cant wait to paint something this bright and crazy.

Am I crazy?

All comments welcome.

Use a real hook and set up foam "fish" to snag from the tops of sticks placed along the slope .

I always though Steve's FISH should be finished in that color scheme.
Notwithstanding the fact that the fuse shape lends itself to a Piranha outfit.

Now, why wouldn't you consider a straight or forward swept wing like proper flying fish?

Who hates fish.... but marvels at flying ones.

Here you go!

Actually, when trying to figure out how I wanted to decorate my Le Fish, at first I wanted to make the whole fuse look like a koi. I went to all the local asian markets for ideas but could not get a pattern that I could work with.

Then I looked in my tackle box and found an old cedar tuna plug that looked cool.

I had to get her done before weaselfest, so I settled on this. It took a whole five minutes to come up with this.

Matin re the foward swept wing. I figured a back swept wing would fly more stable. If anyone has an airfoil of a forward swept that would do the trick I would go for it. I was just going to get jack at Leading Edge Gliders to cut me a pink prarie dog wing

Well I changed my mind and am making this little guy with a peacock bass paint job. the fuse will be a whopping 6 inch round diameter and 28 inches long. Lost foam using some cheap 3 inch eps I had lying around.

Cool project Dave.

Can't wait to see more progress. How about an electric ducted fan version. That mouth could accomidate some big fans.

Funny how my seven year old wanted to go look around at Bass Pro Shops tonight. We drive by it everyday on the way to school.

what about a clear pointed nose cone out of plastic.
It could fit right in the mouth.

Sweet! Going to add some fine-grain glitter for the iridescent look?
