pyrsly,

I really dig your sanded wing! Great setup!

How long does it take you to shape a panel minus the freehand detail/touchup work?

You must come out of your shop looking like you dove into a bag of flour!

Resin?

pyrsly,

How are you applying the fiberglass skins without bagging - resin or water-based varnish?

Do you work on just one surface at a time?

If it's resin, how do you keep the weight down?

Your results look good.

Simply spray foam with 3M77 and drop on flat spread glas. Cut exes glass fold edges and do whatever you need. Repeat on other side. Soak whole thing wet in epoxy than gently remove exes using squidgy and paper towels. Wing ready!
Wait for more photos you will se.

Gratings!
I decide to experiment with torque web similar to Fireworks 3 and 4. All I goth left to do is epoxy everything together. I hope that wax paper trick will work. Before I was just mounting outerskin to core and soaking from outside. I'm expecting weight reduction. I guess I could put all reinforcement on wax paper and mop even more epoxy but I wont take small steps, maybe next time.

Don't worry about it!

Nice!

Most manufacturers make the webs get closer together at the root, instead of evenly distributed, but what you did should work fine.

Looks to me like you should be making a hotwire cutter and starting to experiment with different types of foam...

Has anyone tried Icarex in stead of f/glass for their home-builds?

http://ecom.citystar.com/hang-em-hig...FABRIC&pgidx=0

There are lots of ways to do it and this is an example of how some combat fliers use it.
http://www.tufflight.com/icarex.html

I have used a single layer for coverings and multiple layers to make a tapered re-enforcement. It weighs 1/2 oz/sq yard. It's woven but does not stretch like rip-stop nylon does. I have used it on a wing that I change the tension on during flight to change flight characteristics. I did a landing that put the wing into a chain link fence post and it only put a small dent in the foam which came with a little work. The fence post jumped into my path quicker than I could avoid it (lol).

I'm really happy the way things turnout. Wing is extremely stiff in torsion and wax paper trick made nice finish. It's time to cut flaperons and servo bays. More pictures coming soon!
