bernienepper: nice work. However I think you built it a little too heavy. What is the AUW and what's the size of the battery you are using?

You don't need ailerons on this thing - they are ineffective and you really should turn with rudder. FYI my truck was 340g with a 1300mah 3s in it. I don't think you need you adjust the angle of attack on the roof either.

Since you said that it wouldn't leave the ground, why not do a quick thrust test: hold the truck at the tail and point the nose up, and see if it can support its own weight as you apply throttle. I suspect that the kv of your motor is too low for a small prop.

Good luck!

Wow guys, I didnt think that this thread would move a long

I went t o the WRAM show a month ago and bought some good indoor 3d motors and escs. It took me a while to get experienced and have enough money to permenantly stay in the hobby.

I am planning of starting this build as soon as I get the wires and plugs and all that soldered on together.

Great builds guys! The video of them flying in the gym is really cool now that I look back on it. I wonder how they got them to fly like that?

Also, anyone know where I can buy some depron on a chain store like ACMoore or MIchaels?

Thanks and good flying

Bernienepper, you need lots of speed to get in the air. Throwing won't work unless you throw it very hard to gain speed. My truck won't lift itself if I hang it nose up, but it flies. With bigger power/weight ratio it might lift itself up easier.
First attempt in the video was good until the truck spinned, I bet it would have left the ground soon. CG is inside the back of the cab, I'll measure mine tomorrow and make a drawing. I hope the weather is fine so I could finally take that video as a proof.

bernienepper... good effort! I think your control surfaces are just too sensitive. Maybe expo would help.

Furthermore... i think you introduced the Delta surfaces just directly behind your motor. Since the distance between the two up/down surfaces are so close apart, it might send your Truck into a roll effect rather than a soft gentle turn like other delta wings.

Try dealing away with that function and keep with Elevator link with your motor (Thrust Vectored) and Rudder to steer. You might want to link that with Aileron, so Aileron is Rudder and Rudder is Rudder as well.

Just an opinion... I just can't wait to start building the truck as i need to complete my other projects first. Good luck !

What a bummer bernienepper,
It looked like it was almost there except for the overcontrol.

No worries, some hot glue and it will be like new. Looks like it didn't broke into 20 parts, only few big ones.

Ah, finally got that video. Here it is:

Scratchbuilt RC flying truck (5 min 37 sec)

Crashed it few times, only minor damage in last crash.
