Oh gosh... I built one last year and I only had one crash-free flight (total of 5)

This is the maiden:
Airrace Truck maiden and crash (0 min 21 sec)

Be prepare to go thru a lot of frustration to make it fly properly. Keeping the weight down is very important and you need to be careful with the CG - too far back and your truck will take off all in a sudden, nose straight up, stall and crash.

The only successful flight was after I made a variable pitch motor mount and link it to the elevator servo. As a matter of fact, I think the size of the elevator on this truck makes it so ineffective, you may as well just rely on the thrust pitch for elevator control.

Then again, it is still very difficult to fly in even moderate wind. It lacks the aileron controls and I just gave it up soon after.

Hi saotome,

Thanks for help. I want built it for variable pitch too. Where is the right CG? I want fly with this only indoor. I hope can landing without breaking!

I built this one as well based on Kram242's plans but I had to guess at the CG and I guessed way wrong.... The remains are sitting on my "to be repaired" shelf.

I put the CG at the rear of the side window.....it should have been about 3 inches behind that....

what if you made the truck as more of a RAID style truck?

Might give you more wing surface and more room to have an elavon set up too. just an idea

Base on my (crashing) experience, the "correct" CG is as forward as you possibly can.

On the other hand, it doesn't run well on the ground unless you go for steerable front wheels, which adds quite a bit of weight and complexity.

I think it makes more sense to build this truck with EPP cuz you know you'll be crashing a lot with it.

Hi!
I think so, your model is nose heavy, because in 3D flying must the CG setting a little back, so can aeroplanes flying in Harrier-style. You must in Harrier flying, with nose up about 45degree, so you can landing without breakking the truck. See original video. I make my Truck for 5mm depron (green floor underlay). Some pictures about built:
