Question

Gyro Mounting Foam/Tape?

What mounting foam do you use to mount your gyro? I am using Logictech 2100T but the stock mounting foam is gone.

Based on my understanding it is important to use a good mounting foam instead of just mounting tapes. Do you have any recommendations?

Are Futaba Gyro Foam Mounting Pads good?

thanks.

I do not see any mounting foams at the website you mentioned.

Perhaps Justplanechris ran out. PM him just the same. Some double sided foam tapes work well. It should be springy enough but not weak as to rip apart. The idela foam tape will damp out vibrations.

The best foam tape ive used is the black "servo tape" Trinity sells it

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXFZN9&P=7

or the wide trinity http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKC60&P=7

The one with the plastic center tube thing is what i always look for, and the blue strip at the start. Some are like rubber but ive never had good luck with it or the white type. They always fall off after a while.

What ever you use you still want to use a zip tie or a velcro strap because they will get bumped and work loose.

You don't want to use a zip tie on a gyro. Transmits vibrations.

I always use the included tape.

A quick search on "double sided foam tape" at staples.com returns multiple results. The smallest package is still 36 yards and costs $54.99

Not as much as if it falls off.

I just wrap electrical tape over the gyro unto the boom clamp with enough slack for the gyro to move. This holds the gyro in place in case of foam tape failure.

I've had the Futaba foam tape expire on my heli until it was crumbly. Luckily the tape held the gyro in place to have decent control for an emergency landing.

Well ive put bits of foam tape where the zip tie makes contact to the gyro but i didnt notice it helping much. Im a n00b so i couldnt tell the difference if i wanted. My stuff is all just junk anyway so the little vibrations (if any) the gyro sees probobly make it fly better.
