Build Log

Multiplex Fox "chuckie" to Pitcheron in 6 hours

I know a lot of people have modified these to be RC.. But I'm thinking of making one into a pitcheron. *shuffles feet* I um... bought one when getting parts for the Retox today..

Anyone fancy a small build thread? I'm going to make some food and crack open a bottle of red wine.. the scalpel comes out when the food is gone.

EDIT: After a little deliberation and an evening of worknig out how to do it, the building starts on post 15.

EDIT 2: 6 hours build-time and 2 hours Maiden in the same day. Project completel.

Why not.
A french guy turned a Graupner Mini Discus 2c in to a pitcheron, he has some very nice solutions for the servos and for holding the wing on (magnets in the joiner) sorry it's in French but the pics are in English :P

Just bought one today and was think of doing exactly the same thing!
I think it could work out simpler than using conventional controls?
Great minds obviously think alike!!!

It would be simpler with conventionals... But I'm not sure it would be as easy to dis-assemble and pack it... (which is one of my goals)

Great minds indeed. I was thinking 300mah NiMh pack... What do you rekon?

The aim is to use it as my "busker"

Nick,

It might be worth checking out this long (boring) thread on RCMF:

Cactus - Philybaby did a pitcheron with a difference (servo in the body) in a thread on here not so long ago.

dis-assemble ???
It's wingspan is the size of a decent sailplane's tailplane!

I need to check out other folk's set ups before committing to some surgery with my new scalpel blade! It's a project i'm looking forward to though

One bottle of wine and a bag of almonds down.. (yeah, I know) ... and I've worked it all out.

All of the other examples of thiis daft excercise out there are festooned with external snakes and linkages... I'm not so fond of that.

I have to test the gear to make sure it'll work on a single Lithium Ion cell... but if it works we have a pitcheron design with no external linkages on our hands.

I'm also going to stiffen those wings up.. they're delightfully crap.

I'll feed the EPP gerbils tonight and make the requisite templates for them to chew through in the morning.

Night all

Some ideas.....Also the little Schulze receivers will work quite happily on a single Lipo. The operating instructions will tell you that its minimum voltage is 3.6 volts but inside the receiver there is a schottky diode - if you bridge it you have additional 0.2 volts of tolerance i.e. down to 3.4volts.

Pitcheron? I'd consider using a tubular spar in the wing to double as both spar and twisty mech.
Alternatively the pic shows the elevon tail mechanism on a GWS F-15. Simple and very effective. The tailerons are about the same area as the Fox wings would be

A good weight to aim for with 110mAh Nimh batter (Alula pack) is 75g.
