BoneDoc's 3D Clinic #2: KE Spins & Blenders

Hey Gang,

I'm glad that the first clinic was helpful for you guys. Not to rest on that, I've gotten another clinic setup. At Ben's suggestion, added the KE Spin and Blender Clinic because it has WOW factor, and it's not as challenging technically compared to some of the 3D maneuvers. In other words, for little practice, you get a lot of "bang" for you bucks.

Without further ado, KE spins and Blenders (or Flat spins) are "close cousins" aerobatically speaking. With Right aileron, you flatten out the wing and turn it into a flat spin, and with left aileron, you put the model in a KE attitude and turn it into a KE spin. Blenders are just the way to get to the flat spin / KE spin.

Here's the video. Hope you find it useful as well.

Very nice videos. Your wife is a very big help. She deserves a big thanks. I am waiting to see the rolling harriers. The AJ Slick looks like it handles very nice! Can't wait to get one.

So are you saying I've got to take my daughter along on my student flights?

Excellent work - and dedication!

You know, I know the opinions going to sway back and forth on this...but I almost liked the full screen overlay of the controller better. Don't want to go nuts on this nitpicky stuff though.

I've only got 2 more nights of flying before lots to practice now. Thanks again BD!

I'll put in my vote for the transparent overlay. I think it's either to watch the sticks and airplane simultaneously that way.

Thanks again for the posting these videos. Your time as well as your wife's is much appreciated.

I agree with your comments in the other thread about possibly flying a plane that won't do all those manuevers so perfectly because for the life of me I just can't initiate a knife edge spin as easily as you demonstrate in the video. I have one profile plane that will initiate easy but some of my others won't. The SR I had was easier but I still haven't been successful with my SHP. Oh well, I will keep trying and watching your videos!

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'll pass it along to Inn as well.

I'll try to do it with the TX overlay and see how it looks. The reason I did it this way is because compared to the harrier, the maneuvers here aren't as stick intensive, with less corrections... so I thought. It's been a journey of discovery as well for me, as I figured out what I've been doing to get stuff to KE spin and such .

The SHP is a little more difficult to KE Spin. If I remember correctly, I think you'll need to add more left aileron to get her properly in the KE attitude. Sometimes easing up on the rudder also helps.

to emphasize again, the position of the aileron is CRUCIAL in getting a successful KE spin or flat spin. Some planes, like the Slick is more tolerant with stick positioning, but some others need a little more tweaking to get right.

you'll love how the 55" Kat will blender and KE spin. Just make sure that you give yourself enough height to recover from. The more tapered wing makes the maneuvers more crisp, bit it also makes the plane somewhat less tolerant to yanking and banking.

The tumbles is definitely in the mix, and I'll add that as time allows .

If the TX overlay video isn't downloading for you... just give it some time and try later in the day. I'm in the process of rendering and uploading as we speak.

I've got that down to a fine art already.

Any chance these will all be linked from a single thread (sticky perhaps ??)
