The Summer of Space

So i have been a member here on RCGroups for 3 years or so. I stumbled across the site when i was looking for some information on electric planes.

I saw the stuff on scratchbuilt foamies and was totally shocked at the coolness i found.

So my first plane was a Steve Shumate Saab Gripen.

It was quite ambitious for a first project but it turned out great.

From there i built a Cool Turbo Raven 3D plane. Had lots of fun with it. Then i built a 3DBatix Extra 330... Holy crap is that a great plane design. I put over 300 flights on that plane before i had to retire it and build another one.

Over the past 3 years i have built about 30 planes about 20 of them were Designs from other people and i learned a lot about how to build them right. I have been working on my own designs from way back, before i knew what i was doing.

My first design was a Star Trek USS Reliant

It was a VERY scale design and rather small. WHat can i say i didn't know. Many people (like GPW and Gene Bond) told me to start with a Profile and see if i could make it fly. I scoffed at such negativity and went on. Hahaha i was such a fool! Needless to say it never flew. I could never get a decent glide out of it.

Then i did a 3D design of my own. It stunk. Terrible design, too heavy, flimsy, etc. So i started working on some other designs.

Over the years i have designed a Hydroplane that flew great but wouldn't float.

My first really ambitious plane was a V-22 Tiltrotor. All ready to fly but i didn't have extra ESC's to power it. But it was really cool!

I have a bunch more power systems now so i may pull it out and fly it someday.

I built a couple other of my own designs, a B-58 Hustler that i built over the winter and still have not flown.

A canard design of my own destined to be a Heavy Lift plane

Then Kwinters posted his design for a Klingon Bird of Prey. It was soooooo cool. I got involved with his thread and decided to resurrect my Reliant.

So i designed a new LARGER profile version of the Reliant and it was really cool Flies awesome!

THen Kwinters had trouble making his BOP fly so i gave it a go. Mine was also a dismal failure but i would not be deterred! I designed a new one using some new ideas and it was a HUGE success!

Now i was hooked. I started designing all kinds of new spacecraft.

A Romulan Warbird

A Star Wars Tie Interceptor

Everyone said it would never fly... i have a video to prove it does!

I have been working on a design for an Enterprise D

I've got a few others in mind too.

This is going to be the summer of SPACE!!!

Gotta do more Star Wars!! An X-wing for sure, Maybe an A-wing, Millenium Falcon for sure. Definitely a 4' long Star Destroyer! Maybe a B-Wing.

THen i am thinking of doing some Battlestar Galactica ships! How about a Battlestar! Viper, Cylon....

Maybe some Babylon 5 ships? the Fury would be really cool to build.

Anyhow. I am kinda geeked about the whole space thing. Keep watching!

Check out the article in the May 2014 issue of Fly RC magazine called Franken Project. Mike Lee the author has USS Reliant featured there
