I've made a bit more progress and now have the wing covered in transparent gold Profilm. I'm going to do the body in a transparent green. The V Tail control surfaces have all been rigged up now and I just need to do the same with the ailerons.

More details on my build can be found on my blog.

I haven't heard of Profilm. How did it handle the wing? Did it stretch enough on those compound curves?

Okay, mine has her head reattached. Going to try to tame her before the Randy Covington All Electric.

Looks great. although for some reason it seems to resemble a medeavel<Sp?> dragon than a prehistoric pterodactyl.

I've been slowly making progress on my Pterodactly. Fun project so far and it's coming together nicely.

Looks great Mark.

You seem to have a small fetish for plastic airplane models.

Yours is looking good Mark. I look forward to see further pictures soon and wish you well with the rest of the build.

The Profilm handles very well, the hardest thing about it is getting the backing off however, but it is easy to work with and handled the curves very well.

I'm at the stage of covering the body now, so will upload some more pictures soon. She's not far of being complete now.

More details on my build can be seen by clicking this link.

My daughter (pictured to the left) and I are going to build one of these. She wanted me to build her an RC Dinosaur / Dragon. I'd say this fits into that category! We have the kit. I'm just waiting on the motors and the ESC's so I can get going.

Getting the backing off of the profilm is best done with two pieces of tape. Hold the edges of each piece of the tape between the thumb and index finger of each hand. Apply the sticky side of the tape to each side of the profilm. Pick a corner or edge. Pull apart. The profilm will be on one side, the backing on the other. Use blue painters tape or scotch tape and it will be easy to remove from the film.

Best of luck,
Ted

I agree with others, the PROFILM is the ducks guts as far as im concerned. I deliberately chose Profilm because of its nature to handle the compound curves of the Ptero. Mine was/is transparent green but in hind sight should have made it a solid colour as it gets hard to orientate at height.
Keep enjoying the builds guys, it is worth it.

How are all of your Pterodactyls doing? I ordered mine about an hour ago.

Flew mine once. Nice flying plane.
I don't like the instructions and it took me almost a year to build it. Would get disgusted with the plans and would put it away for weeks at a time. A real looker once finished.

Setting in the corner needing a new body. Did finally get a good flight, but broke both tails off on landing when I snagged a some weeds on the edge of the field. She had a rough first year, but think once I rebuild the body she'll be good.

Mine is almost ready to cover, but it's slid down the build list and probably won't be finished any time soon.
