Show us your groundstation!

I use a Tripod and have made a holder for the reciever and patch antennas. The antennas can be adjusted for any angle. battery ,videosplitter , Dv-cam, is attached to the tripod legs.

Hi,

Here's our ground station. Everything (including the Goggles) is powered off a gel cell in the bottom of the tool box and everything folds away into the toolbox. The Oracle gives a low voltage alarm so I know when we're running out of time.

The pieces of wood are cut exactly to fit at different levels in the tool box so everything folds away into the box with the wood forming two shelves.

The two patch antennas are usually pointing away from one another, unlike in the photo.

Now where's my anorak? :-)

I was bored to take 3 cardboard boxes and to deal with a nest of wires.
So i made a plywood box to carry all the FPV stuff (excepted the easystar).

...And here's mine. More a "ground vehicle" than a "ground station" ;-)

1.2GHz Dish for Video/Data/GPS/Sensor downlink (17dBi + 37dB LNA)
Yagi for 2.4GHz uplink with Spektrum Airmod (about 11dBi, sold as 16, haha)

Ground-to-ground range tested until 15km /10miles (but will be much more, will test longer distances later..)

Control-Application calculates tracking angles trough comparison of UAV and Ground-Antenna GPS positions.

u-blox GPS gives 5 updates/sec. and DIRECT output of VERTICAL speed (very accurate, orange arrow on the right side of the OSD)

Pictures:
1: Tracking Antenna, alignable with PC at +/- 0.5°
2: Notebooks inside car: Live-View with OSD, Moving-Map, Control Application
3: My control-application (programmed in delphi 7)
4: OSD calculated from control-application (have to look for a better camera)
5: Concentrated flying because of strong gusts of wind ;-)

Wow!

How is the antenna aimed?

My ground station is more like the picture below. The patch is stuck in a crack in the picnic table. The camcorder would be on the table, but I was using it to record the scene and the gear. This flight was over a lake and I got to find out that my video tx works (a bit) underwater, though the camera stayed dry.

I can say, in my defense that I had to hike to the flying site and only the park rangers can drive there. Still, except for a tripod for the patch, this is all I use and it packs pretty small, and I do fly from some inconvenient sites.
