Early Slope History Treasures Unearthed

The folks at RC Soaring Digest have made available some vintage issues of the famous Slope Soaring News, a small magazine dedicated to slope soaring published in the late 1980's.

The issues up are in high rez PDF format, and you can download them from the links above. They are worth a read, these early slope pioneers were inventing everything we know and fly today.

Some names you will know from today, others forgotten. The Slope Soaring News is a true archive of slope history and technology.

What a difference 20 years makes in soaring. A must read.

Wow !.
That is the Bluff Park in Long Beach ( Ocean Ave & Redondo ).
The fellow on the right is Dick Vader.
I still see him occasionally at the Bluff Park - less often lately.
I think he is a regular attendee at Tuesday night meeting at Dr. Marty Nation's clinic.

That's really cool there are some online. I have a whole stack of these that I flip through every now and then. It takes me back to my roots.

I learned to fly at that park, I was flying an Oly 650 and I watched this guy flying an SR7 just tear up the place, I was so amazed at how fast and nimble it was. I just HAD to get an aileron ship...
