LOL! Thanks, but I was leaving the fun part of linking them to Justin, so he can put them into his first post.

Yup, that's me - I don't know the difference between a TRex 450 SA, SE, XL, etc...

I tried this link:
Curtis Youngblood Rave 450 Official thread

but it appears the owner of that thread packed up, went home, and took his info with him.

Does anybody have a good "Intro to TRex 450s" link?

There are a few trex threads around here. However most of the information is outdated. What are you looking for specifically? There are alot of resources outside of RCG. I will fix that link, I think someone started a new thread recently.

Pull up, Bob, pull up!
I'm thinking of progressing beyond my Blade CX2.
A guy at my field is offering his TRex 450 (w/ Optic 6 Tx) for $200.
He's a really nice/helpful guy and has guided me thru learning to fly fixed wing aircraft over the last year and a half.
That sounds like a really good deal, but I don't know enough about it.
I'm pretty sure he doesn't have any aluminum or CF upgrades, and I think it is at least a few years old. He did say it had a good gyro on it.
So I was hoping to do a little research on the various TRex 450 models so I could at least ask some intelligent questions. :-)

As far as the different versions go, this thread should explain it mostly. Might want to take a few notes though, there is alot of information to take in.
200 Bucks for a RTF trex is a good deal, almost any way you look at it. If it does have the plastic frame, the better of those two versions has the servo control directly from the servo to the swashplate. If he has a decent gyro, its probably the futaba 240 or 401 judging mostly on age. Either of those are a good starting point. Find out what kind of servos he has in it. Along with motor/esc. Seems like a stand up guy, have him test fly it for you and ask him to pitch pump (go up and down quickly) and watch the tail and if the heli has any weird flight characteristics. That will be a good test of how well he has it set up. But over all, if the guy is going to be around after you buy it and on your initial flights you probably dont have anything to worry about. The price is right.

Thanks for the tips and pointers.
The FAQ thread looks like just the thing.
I've got a lot of reading to do!

That's about what I thought - can't go wrong for 2 Benjamins.
I trust the guy enough to know he is not just trying to unload his old broken crashed-up junk. And he is there every morning at sunrise waiting for the gate to open, so I know he'll be around for a while too.
