Ten minutes with a 2200mah batt, but not WOT all the time, I like those low slow passes sometimes.

I smacked my HD keychain cam on the underside at the CG point and it did good, no "jelly-vision" at all, which I saw all the time mounted on my helicopters. I guess wing mounting is the way to go tho, unless you like see the nose gear wheel spin along in flight.

i was doing 8 with 2200 mAH but now i've been babying my batts and doing just 5 with each of them. mostly ~70% throttle.

Dude... You can always go down to 3.8 volts a cell with no problems at all... In fact when i started this hobby with my super cub 3 years ago i went down to 3.5v a cell almost everyday flying for like a year or so... No problems with batteries at all....

Even the ratings of the batteries for 3 cell @ 11.1 (that's 3.7 X 3) as minimum safe voltage.
4 cell 3.7 X 4 = 14.8, etc.
(Don't feel bad if you didn't know this..it took me AWHILE to figure it all out too)

11.1v is the nominal voltage not the minimun safe voltage. The real deal is 9v 3.0v x 3 is the minimum safe voltage of a lipo. But people dont like to go so far down. Lipo have create the myth that can noy go down more than 3.7 but your still safe as far as 3.2v

True enough DAX but I don't want newbies to get anywhere near that until they get a feel for electrics. I always keep my packs at 3.4 to 3.7 per cell when flying and I believe it extends the life of the batteries.

For sure. I try never pass down 3.7v, in that range i have enough juice without the risk of a LVC. i like to have the reserve tank in case some crosswind start to blow and wont let me land or need to reaproach for a better align to landing. i was just posting the real deal. I do now and them give my lipo a cycle down to 3.0 or 3.2 and then put on storage.

The generally accepted wisdom is to not use more than 80% of the capacity of the battery. If you use more, you reduce the battery life. You can tell how much you used if your charger displays mAh it delivers to the battery while charging. Generally when you hit 3.7 volts per cell, you've used about 80%. I have one 3S battery I pulled down to 10.9 volts - it still seems to work fine, but now it takes noticeably longer to charge than an identical battery when I've discharged them about the same amount. Its clearly not quite as healthy as it used to be.

I have my timer set to 6 minutes, if I've been WOT a lot I land immediately. If its been a more relaxed flight I take my time, but I rarely go longer than 7 minutes.

Edit: forgot to say the 3.7 number is rest voltage after the flight. If you're talking voltage under load during a flight, then yeah the lower numbers are OK. Well, not sure about 3.0 even then.

Hey again,

Anyone using Throttle/Elevator mixing with a Dx6i?

I had read that it wasn't working, but maybe I have newer firmware, since it's working fine for me, although it was a tad confusing to set up.

Anywhoo, if you are mixing, what % of down elevator are you throwing in with WOT? I thought I'd start at 15%. It'll be on my flap switch, so I can test it at safe altitude, but I'm kind of excited to see if this is a cool mix to use.

I'd probably start at 5%, faster you go the more effective the surface is.

I ordered HK's orangerx 3-axis gyro out of curiosity, and today smacked it into my T-28. I was hoping it would make windy landings easier, and not get knocked around as much doing acrobatics. Works alright, tho it def flies a little different. No gradual climbout at wot, goes more flat. The unit has adjustable pots, too much gain and supposedly the model gets too twitchy. More importantly, even if someone better than yourself crashes in the wind, it gives you that courage to go out there anyways, because heck there's a $15 good luck charm under the canopy, so what could happen?!?
