No, actually the opposite is true, itís much easier than a conventional helicopter. I taught myself heliís a couple of years ago and own a bunch of 450ís. The quad flies in Stabilize mode with gyros on each axis. The electronics make it inherently stable. If you let go of the sticks it rights itself and remains stationary.

I've been considering getting one too Piper. Looks like it would be cool to mess around with. Wouldn't take near the needed space as a sailplane to launch and recover and I could use it like Katie said for FPV of the further reaches of the property and the washes we can't see into from the house. I just want to know how much wind they can handle.

Had a quad pilot stop and chat to me on the slope a few weeks back, asked him to explain the flight principles of a quad and it was most interesting to digest, perfect recon tool! and much less scary than a 450 blade on a windy day I'd be a guessing.

Rained solidly all weekend so no misadventures with thermaling gliders.

Cheers for vid Piper!

Cool vid Piper and probably the way it would turn out for me except I would have most likely dropped it on my head.

Oh, and thanks for showing me that website. I now have yet another thing to burn time on.

That guy was standing scary close to his widowmaker. No-but-nobody ever stands that close at the field, not even the experts. They know better.

It's easy to say that guy isn't the brightest bulb in the pack. Then again who knows... Maybe his better half was complaining that the trees needed trimming.... It is amazing how many people try out for the "Darwin Awards" without even knowing it. He was lucky he didn't get one.

Hi Wayne

Just saw your posted video, that dude has way too much time on his hands.

I can just barely send a email let alone program those Quad deals.

How is your Raven glider coming along?

Hi G Don,

Yep when I saw that video I was thinking "did someone get paid to do this?" The Raven is almost finished. Construction is finished, wiring is finished, servos are installed, final sanding is done, fuselage is covered and all the tail pieces should be covered in the next few days. The main wings are partially covered, open bay areas are covered, just need to cover the sheeted areas and add a little sparkle.

I still need to connect the rudder control linkage and glue in the spoiler servos but it is 98% finished. It will take to the air early spring which, around these parts, will probably be April time frame. I will definitely have pictures and hopefully a little video too. I am a little further along than shown in this picture.

More woodie madness going down in sunny California, too.

I'm fixing the BoT. It's a little more work than I expected, because the wood splintered in a way that prevented me from just gluing the mess back together. I had to surgically remove sections and scarf new pieces in.

So far, I have one spoiler fit into it's notch, one half of the missing TE section replaced, all three ribs in and square, and I'm shaping the block to fit Ups' suggestion. Once I have the holes drilled, the dowels shaped and epoxied, and the whole block epoxied and curing, I'll go back and glue on the other TE piece. After that, the sheeting, spoiler two, servos, wires, and, finally, the covering.

Nice and soothing work.
