I have terrible news.

This morning my hubby, Dory, had a heart attack and crashed the car. He didn't survive. I'm still in shock, don't really know what to do. I have the day off tomorrow, and will probably take Friday too. I have Dad over with me, all the way from Fresno, and my sister will be helping me out tomorrow. I feel like I have to call half the county. One step at a time.

The direction of the sheer web doesn't seem to make as much of a difference as how much sheer web there is. I've read several posts comparing the two and the difference typically falls withing experimental error (+/- 5% maximum). These tests were mock-ups of wing sections and were tested to failure. One was an open structure and the other was a vacuum bagged glassed foam core with a traditional CF/balsa spar. The general thinking is that while the horizontal grain resists sheer it is more vulnerable to compression as the spars deflect. The vertical grain resists compression but is more vulnerable to sheer. The absolute worst case was a +/- 45 sheer which failed significantly earlier than either the horizontal or vertical grain sheer web. I may have to find the posts but in the end if your sheer is as wide as the spar, it doesn't really matter much.

On my BoT kit I'm going to follow the Bubble Dancer spar. I've already go the CF prelam and Kevlar thread, I just need to cut my own sheer webs. It may not be a rocket ship on the winch but at least it should be able to handle the lump of lead at the end of my leg.

Katie, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss!!! Though I never met Dory, from the way you spoke of him here I have a feeling he was a great guy. I know it's going to be rough for a while, but hang in there and you'll make it through. I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say if you need anything all you have to do is ask. Hang in there Katie.

Katie, that is indeed terrible news. Good luck, and please don't hesitate to ask if there is anything we can do to help. Nothing can replace Dory, but you still have your memories, and you still have lots of friends.
