Well... Sean... If a couple of your club members run up and abruptly kick you in the shins for no apparent reason... they're just fulfilling their promise to me... I met two of your club members from Pensacola at TNT this past weekend. It was a blowout... WINDY!!! It was still fun and I got to see a lot of friends. Looks like the TNT may be moved to a less windy part of the year... We can hope...

Oh, Steve! About the carnivorous plants: I really envy AUS for two things-- Cephalotus, AKA southern pitcher plant (and I'm sure a host of other names), cute little green and purple moccasins, and tuberous sundews. I have seen pictures of fields full of the little sparkling gems, and so far I have only been able to keep one species alive. In fact, it is waking up now. If you ever get a chance to see either, they are really worth the trip. Some day, I'll have to fly down to see them myself.

OK, it's settled. Now Steve has to bring plants with him when he comes.
Bugs: I have never seen one single bug in my house since I closed on it........until a couple of months ago. I flood the interior and exterior regularly with some high quality pro stuff I get from a friend. However, I saw a German roach one night and freaked. Flooded the house again. I'm surprised I didn't hospitalize my wife and dog with all the chemicals I've sprayed around here. A week later and more roaches. Sprayed again. Happened once more before my wife finally figured out where they are coming from (I told you she is much smarter than me). They were being delivered by none other than the United States Postal Service. Seems that she always throws all junk mail into the kitchen garbage can. She made her discovery after opening an envelope full of coupons (coupons are her life, that and shoes). She freaked out and almost wouldn't go back in the house. This from a lady that can walk up on a rattlesnake in the woods and comment on how "Cute" they are. So, I assumed my mailbox was the culprit and drenched it in the aforementioned radioactive liquid. Roaches again. Finally one day I came home for lunch just as the mail ...........person was delivering my mail. These envelopes were in my box less than 20 seconds from the time she put them in until I took them out. I grabbed the mail, opened up the junk and there they were, a veritable social circle of little brown scum. Obviously, they were getting in there from either: A: The post office, or B: Her vehicle. I made inquiries of my neighbors and, yes, everyone has had an outbreak of little brown demons. I went to the PO and complained. A review was done and yep, they came form the mail person's Saturn station wagon. Supposedly the problem has been solved but just to be safe I require my wife to wear an encapsulation suit while opening the mail, down at the street, while I train a WWII Army issue flame thrower in her general direction. Wife may go down in flames but ...........sacrifices must be made for the general welfare. |

That's just wrooooooong. I like most bugs, I even have pet roaches, but these aren't the infesting type. Getting pests from your mail lady, that's nassssty. Somehk g is horribly wrong in that station wagon.
Wait. Doesnt the USPS use their own custom white box vans? What's with the station wagon? Don't bother trying to bring plants over without the proper paperwork. Of course, if Stve just happens to have export permits, well, by all means bring some, provided that they are collected in approved locations. You know the drill. Pretty much all carnivorous plants are quite rare, and in threatened locations. Here is one more Aussie local to Google-- Drosera hartmeyorum. Landing lights on a 'dew! |

I have reached a stop point on the BoT. I have to wait overnight for the shear webs to cure. That's OK. Tomorrow I'll take off all the granite (and other rock slabs), and check my work. This is fun.

No custom white box vans out here in the Hicksville 'hood Katie. Our mail persons are on contracts and independent. This chick likes to complain to me that she works soooooo hard and only makes $37.00 an hour. I wish she would retire and let my youngest daughter take her route. Babygirl would do it for less, with a smile and bug free.
Oh, and she wouldn't floor it and destroy my driveway entrance daily either. We'll probably have a grudge match over that someday. I have no doubt that I'll lose. This woman has me by at least 40 lbs. In short, she has a 'tude. So Captain, you liked the "Veloci-Schnauzer reference? I will attempt some night to describe the pure viciousness, the relentless pursuit of the next meal, the fear, the reckless focus on gastrointestinal satisfaction that I live with on a daily basis. You have never experienced true dread until you've seen an 18 lb. Schnauzer in full feeding frenzy. The way he circles his prey (his food bowl), the gnashing of teeth, the "cute puppy eyes" he uses to draw his target (my wife) into the kill zone. He can pick up the scent of a freshly opened package of Beggin Strips from as far away as the King size bed upstairs at 2:00 AM. Nothing (not even a promise of a "go for a ride in the truck") will deflect him from his victim. And wiley too. Just today he convinced me that mom hadn't fed him when I came home for lunch. Only tonight at 8:00 PM did she and I compare notes and discover that she slopped the hog (errr, dog) at 12:05 and I again did so at 1:17. Cunning and lethal. |

Some progress to report on the Raven build and the BoT repair. I am onto covering the Raven, I forgot how tedious that job is. The open bay sections of the tail and main wing are translucent white so the sun will shine through them when its in the air. I have finished all the fuselage repairs on the BoT fuselage and I decided to fiberglass the fuselage. This was my first try at fiberglassing a fuse, results were satisfactory but a lot more care and effort would be needed if I ever want to do a clear finish.
I also received some boxes of model magazines from the early to mid 60's. I really enjoy looking through older magazines so these boxes will be hours and hours of fun. I love reading the articles, (Katie, I know its a cliched phrase but I really mean it) and I admit it, I like the pictures too. It's nice to see some people building here again. For a while there I thought Katie and I were the only ones. Enjoy the pictures. Wayne ImagesView all Images in thread |

Sean-
If you have a buddy in the pest business, ask him to score you some stuff called Tempo, it's for roaches. It's a light tan powder that you mix up and spray. When we were having our house built and before the flooring was put down, I nuked under the baseboards throughout the house. I have never seen a roach in my house 10 years after the fact. This sh_t works forever....promise. |

Well it's quite simple I'm afraid, you almost always forget to take a camera to the meets and confess to having to bum pictures from someone else afterwards, this has been going on for a good few years now. Second the Raven! Don, you seen the Merlyn vids over at Skybench HQ? ok.. it has an evil and impure screw thingo on the nose, but what a lovely sailplane. |

Oh yeah, for got to mention the Raven Looks fantastic Wayne!
Old mags are awesome. I love looking at the ads especially. Along those lines I was thinking about something the other night when we were discussing toys. Anyone remember the ad in the Sears catalog for a glider? This would have been in the toy section. Came with a camera. IIRC this was around '67-75 |
