W-11 Install
Wacking through those beautiful laser cut ribs to attach the W's to the spar is part of the O3 build. Mr. Mac's double hacksaw blade technique is the best way to get it done, thanks for the idea Steve.
When you cut the 6 ribs against the spar, the LE tends to sag from the bottom sheeting trying to pull it down. It makes it a little awkward to cut them but I go ahead and intall rib #1 for a little support since it doesn't get cut. I set the rib #1 angle with a little template matching W-11. Jigging it up and supporting the entire LE makes for a better cut/fit when things stay in their normal position. I know this boring just trying to keep it going... Cheers Guys! |

Looking at the second picture it looks more like a well sealed box of scrap. I don't see any ribs in the picture at all. The one piece of sheet stock I can make out has a stamp on it so I don't think that came from Airtronics. To be honest I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. (or a nine foot six Chech for that matter)

Wylie, I wouldn't touch it with your pole.
To me, the most amazing thing is about the bidders, they are all previous ebay buyers ( some in the hundreds ), they all have the opportunity to link to my web site from my OLY ll sale on ebay and see what parts come with the OLY ll kit and search the insturctions on the OLY ll page for more clues of what the kit consists of. They must want the only thing in the kit photo that resembles the OLY ll ... the completed elevator and I'm betting the leading edge on that is not straight. I think the balsa sheet has SIG's stamp on it. The seller doesn't have a clue and neither do the bidders. Betcha the buyer ends up whinning like a run over ... Ray Sky Bench ... Rather than just talking about it here, I logged onto eBay and sent the seller a "question", informing them that they have what appears to be a box of leftover strip wood, not a complete kit. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I had some e-mail exchanges wth the owner of that eBay auction. They got the "kit" at an auction, and didn't know it wasn't a complete kit. Now they do. I recommended withdrawing the auction and re-posting it as what it was, a box of spare wood and a partial fuselage. They agreed that sounded like a good idea, and indicated that they were going to do that. Sounds like an honest mistake, which they are now correcting.
Ray, thanks for bringing that one to all our attention, it looks like you may have helped save both the buyer and the seller some unnecessary grief. |

I"m Back!
The air is thicker down there at sea level, and the effect lasts for a couple of days, SO WATCH OUT!
I am almost all here, but part of me is still following me home from the road trip, and I haven't quite caught up on all the posts since I have been out of touch in dial up land. I'll post better tomorrow. Quick catch up for now. It's good to know that Jack (shrederman) is STILL older than me, condolences all around, I'll buy you as many brews as you can drink if you ever get back to my town, and drink one more than you. Dwells, I never got around to thanking you for turning me into a domino man a couple months ago when you first pointed that out. I spent a couple hours over a few days trying to track down a set at the thrift stores etc. Found some FINALLY at the local Family Dollar Store on sale! Bought 2 small sets (only double 6's). One for ME, one for the Borg! Thanks for the pointer bud! I have some stories, (most of them TRUE) but they will have to wait till tomorrow, I am beat from 28 hours on the road driving 1000 miles with a couple of pauses though rush hour traffic in Sacramento and Las Vegas. (Bad Timing) The Borg should be back in town shortly and we should be able to have a meeting of the minds sometime over the next couple days. (Good Timing) I am fading now. Later my friends. bot |

Don,
I think you deserve all the credit for saving the buyer and the seller. My motivation for posting the sale was hoping it would teach the new guys lurking on this thread to think before they bid on something. In my book, anyone that can look at the kit content photo and bid $76 is beyond help. Maybe, when the saved buyer would have tried to assemble the sticks without a construction plan, it might have dawned on him what he actually bought and then maybe he would have learned his lesson ... maybe. I know everyone is out to save a buck, but building a kit is somewhat like dancing, you have to start out on the right foot. Many a potienal RC Soaring pilot never makes it to first base, because they made a purchase on the bases of saving a buck. I hope the saved bidder will do better next time. How about a little memorabilia, check out my Tx, can anyone name it ? Jack S , do you remember timing ? Ray Sky Bench ... Woodys Forever http://www.skybench.com |

Scott,
Yes and mine still works, how about yours ?? It is a single stick, two channel ( crasher ), the antenna is only partially extended to keep the tip out of the ground during launching. Ray Sky Bench ... Woodys Forever http://www.skybench.com |
