skybench sky bird cg question

How many guys out there balance your skybird on the back spar (rear wing tube) Ray says in the plans to balance on the back spar, does he mean the rear tube or the front tube if you have an electric with one tube ???????

After a small delay got the tail feathers done and installed, just need to put the little triangle stock reinforcements on.
Then radio installation and balancing and getting this girl in the air.

So........ How many that frequent this thread will be at SWC and F3J in the Desert? This is a real hoot and a great place to learn new skills, and polish up on old ones. Every day is flying and every night is Saturday night.

Balance on back of the spar, the wing rod is always placed in the main spar...

And when Spiker says it flies great, that's because he collects a trophy every year flying his Sky Bird in the RES AMA Nationals. I think he has a patent on the above photo of him, his Sky Bird and a Nats Trophy, I have seen similar photos many times.

Hot Damm we have some wood to show, after machining alum for about a year making the three engines now I can look at some wood

Ray has the first test hull starting to take shape

The boat is being built up-side down, then the fixture legs will be reversed and the deck can be put together

The building fixture is in two parts so it can be taken apart inside the hull and removed

We are building a test boat first to make sure it all works OK, as there will no skin on this one just the frame stuff so we can mount the engine etc

Hi John

The frames are 1/4" thick, most likely it will weigh about 20 lbs or so as it will be all hardwood and it will add up

Plus all the alum in the engine - steering etc
