Ellesmere Port Tug-Towing event

Rather than Westport Lake, I decided to take a trip to a tug towing event. mainly to see what my southampton is actually capable of, or isnt capable of.

As it happens, despite the wind, the Southampton actually performed pretty well, not as grunty as some of the more powerful tugs from the likes of Robbe, Mobile Marine and Model Slipway, she did give a respectable account of herself .

hopefully if weather good I will try and get to westport lake in the morning

Thanks, I also shot some video of my solo run with the barge, (which was quite heavy). Southampton did two runs as a team boat and a solo-boat using two-2500mah batt packs, (one per motor).

in all it was an enjoyable event

it was fun, even though it rained during some of the session.

Tugs are VERY popular, and a lot of clubs do tug-towing events, the MPBA do a national series with several heats throughout the country.

Really cool photos, Ghost. Some great modeling evident there. Looks like the event was a lot of fun despite the raindrops.
Thanks for sharing the photos with us.

Thanks Kmot,

it was by Dead Can Dance, an aussie group,
Nerika and Summoning of the Muse are what I have used. with the camera in its dunk box, and above water, there was no sound because the dunk box had muted it, so the whail from the two gearboxes and the ambient chatter weren't audible.

it has since been change after Youtube said i had to use their music,

indeed especially as the lil Southampton was the least powerful tug there,

one guy had a model called Svitzer Powerful, and it has two car cabin heater fans from a Vauxhall Astra (sold as a Saturn Astra in the states), and it has enough power to dig a hole for itself doing aquatic doughnuts.

Southampton is a tad on the light side but still managed to pull the Hudson Bay!
