Build it exactly as Dave says and you won't be displeased. It's a phenomenal flier on just a 6v speed 400, leaves every other aerobatic multi-$$$ plane I have seen in the dust. Everybody I know around my field has built it stock, and it's a fantastic flier as is.

Check the DAW pages for some tips and his complete glue encyclopedia.

Occasionally the battery box will crack or split on a hard landing, but it is easily repaired. The LG bends occasionally but it's not a big deal either, I don't think you need titanium !

I would *strongly* recommend against folding your antenna. I had range problems on mine.

I don't see your antenna running out of the back, what did you do with it?

Antenna wire is out at tail bottom and dangling as usual in the wind.

I've also owned a couple of DAW Extras and consider them to be fine airplanes - ditto Herb's comments. I did however cut and fold my antenna on both aircraft, and never had a confirmed radio glitch. But - if I built a third one, I'd probably use a Dean's base loaded, or a music wire antenna.

Dave's Aircraft Works Extra 300s or Staudacher Review?

I have just purchased the Extra 300s from DAW and I was hoping to contact someone who has built one. Any tips or tricks would be helpful. Also, I would like to know the flight characteristics of the aircraft. Thanks!

Some friends of mine folded the rec antenna inside the fuse and had no problems yet. I had range problems on my Hitec 555 receiver -so I preferred to go the safe route...

Thank you all for your input. I will definitely go with a base loaded antenna and the other suggestions that were made!

Thanks!!!

Use larger control horns than Dave recommends and you will be a lot happier. The plane will fly sooo much smoother. His stated CG location is spot on! Also, a little bit of spackle and sanding before you cover makes a world of difference in the appearence and adds no measurable weight. Use a base loaded antenna. I had problems with a folded up antenna and a Hitech555, it got glitchy at distance. You are gonna love this plane.

Herb,

FMA makes an 8 channel receiver that is almost identical in size and weight as the Hitec 555. I could then set up flaperons. Do you think that this would be beneficial?

I had one, missed it so much I made an updated vesion.
Balanced for a 3S 2100 pack. Same wing, just a few changes to the fuse and tail feathers. I wish I knew where he got the landing gear.
