Cape Islander

I have thought about whether I should start a thread on this boat. It is a ''Cape Islander'' known in this area as a ''Novi'' for it's origins in Nova Scotia. This hull was molded for me by Greg Hiltz and a fine job he does. It is 35'' long fiberglass and very strong. I will use a 3/16ths stainless steel shaft in a large Midwest stuffing box. A 2 1/4'' 4 bladed wheel turned by a Great planes HT-600 with a 3 to 1 Graupner gear box. A 2 channel Attack radio to guide it around the puddle. The reason I am using that combination is that's what I done got on hand here at da boat yard.

I am using Sintra (or sentra whichever) for all of the consturction. 6mm for the few bulkheads and 3mm for all decks, cabins etc. I have found a good source for the stuff but can get it in 4' by 8' sheets only. I use CA glue as sintra loves the stuff and not much else. If anyone uses other adhesives on it let me know but I did have to take several pieces apart and they broke but not at the seam (small pieces fortunately) So it is all plasic except for 3 pices of 1/4 by 1/2 Bass wood under the deck.. So kmot, here are some pitures I done did took for youse.

As you can see from the picture in message #1 the cabin and deck from the area of the soon to be rudder post foreward is removable in 2 sections. 1 a flat deck piece over the rudder and shaft area and 2 the main cabin. Once the rudder and related gear is installed the aft deck piece will be screwed down and only the cabin will remain removable. Haven't decided yet about lighting but if I do it will have green over white on a mast, a searchlight and the usual red and green nav lights. Most likely a cabin light too. Already have a coffee cup with ''Charlie'' on it in 1''= 1' scale (doll house stuff) and a chart of the Plum island sound and Merrimack river.

Hee hee, gotta have the coffee cup!

Instead of a 360 green masthead light that says "I'm trawling" you might want to go with a 360 red light that says "I'm fishing, other than trawling"

you will want to have the fish light and the white light switchable I think the white light is extinguished when actually fishing...

Looking great, Charlie!

Hmmmmm, that info sounds fishy to me,heeheeheeheehee. Thank you kind sir. I knew about the trawler lights but not the fishing lights. Oh yes,if an inshore lobster boat is found fishing at night he might be subject to unkind action from his fellow lobstermen.

Might try soldering up a cage and use a skeg.
