Hi Guys,

Got my 51" AJ Slick!

I would like to use a scorpion motor with 4s 2700 30C+ lipos

would you suggest the 166g SII 3020-780KV or the 205g SII 3026 710KV?

Minor mis-alignment is no problem but it's easy to fix. Often all it takes is a little bit of card stock wedged in on the low side. Kevin covers this in his build videos I believe.

using 30C 2700 packs, I might lean towards the lower kv version so that you have the option to run some larger props., but it's a bit heavy at 7.18oz, when most of the recommended motors are in the 6.3oz +/- range

the higher kv version is a bit light at 5.81 oz., but with 2700 packs you should be able to CG without any issues, and you will be leaning towards an overall lighter "feeling" setup.

My 2 cents would be the 780kv version, plan on running a 13x6.5E or 14x6E max.

I sand both sides until I am able to align the horizontal stab to the wings. I usually don't shim it, I just use thin CA to lock it in place and medium or thick CA to fill in the gap.

I know I've seen it in at least one of the videos, maybe not the Slick 51"? You can create small shim with a little card stock to get it level and then CA it in place. I always use a little medium or thick to fill in any gaps (whether I shimmed or not).

Inexpensive motor recommendation:

My Torque 2812/720 developed some problems, so while I look at fixing it I had to replace it. The Torque has plenty of power for me, and I'm saving the GR45 for the 57" Extra 330, so I used this motor http://www.milehighrc.com/brushless4250-7.html. It is a low cost replacement for the torque. It weighs only about 1/2 oz more than the torque (including prop adapter, washer, and nut). With a Xoar 14x7 and Flightmax 4S, 3000 (20c) , I was getting about 750 watts with about 48amps. The pack I was using already had a few minutes of usage on it. 750 watts was what I was getting with the Torque and APCE 14x7.

I flew 8 packs with this setup, and I couldn't tell the difference between this motor and the torque. I did have to drill new mounting holes, because the motor is bigger in diameter then the torque, so the old holes were being blocked just enough to where I couldn't use the old X mount. It also comes with an 8mm bolt-on prop adapter, so I had to drill out the props. (I believe the GR45 has 8mm prop adapter, so now I can share the same 14x7 props between the Slick and the 57" Extra.) The new X mount/motor/adapater combination was a few millimeters longer than the Torque combination.

I may actually keep the gr-45 in the box and go with my A30-12XL first..I have not decided..after reading everything Doc has posted about an easier time not having to wrestle with the throttle, that might be just the thing for me..

A30-12XL is awesome. What esc are you going to use?

Good question on ESC. I've been able to overheat the Hacker X-55 pretty easy in the 100 Texas heat depending on prop with the 12XL. I prefer the X-70 (Airboss 60 has been good in my Yellow Slick also).

I'm using a CC PHX 80 on mine....no probs. Pretty sure this setup is pulling 55-60 amps.

Use the 75 unless you plan to prop down.
