I managed to land my 51" slick harrier style, but a bit off. It wound up breaking the joiner right at the elevator. Any suggestions of how to fix? Should I dremel out the existing joiner halves and replace? Or perhaps epoxy a strip of carbon fiber? Any suggestions?

Planes with broken joiners are supposed to just be shipped to me It's the new rule I just made up haha.

You can just add a wire joiner if you want... I did that on my 70" slick and it has worked out really well... I added a wire on both the top and bottom... I think... if I remember right Looks like you will need to replace your CA hinges as well... those ones are bad now.

I fly, therefore, I crash!!!

Looks to me like not enough CA was used on the hinges to start with allowing them to pull out, which is why the joiner broke....

And, yes, I would replace the joiner.

How did you secure the wire.. with CA? And the hinges, they are one and done? I just thought I'd CA 'em again.

BTW, I just got the shipping quote. You can have the plane, but please send $3500.00 for shipping and handling asap via wire transfer. )

Hmmm, not so sure it will catch on since the next one is not for another 100 years.

+1 on both points. If it were mine I'd take the other half of the elevator off, cut the joiner free (with a modelling knife, not a Dremel) and put in a new joiner.

Steve

PS.. As a matter of interest why would anyone use a Dremel on balsa I see people talk about doing just that all the time but why?

Just my 2 Dirham's worth (= .5555 cents)

+1, When I busted them on a harrier usually the counterbalance at full up catches the ground and breaks off. On the 51 the joiner is wood, breaks easier, on the 30cc it's phenolic, something else usually breaks first.

So now the plane and servos are on the way its time for the rest.

How does this sound
Motrolfly 3615-750 on a 14x7
Ice 75 lite
Some 4s 2500-2700 packs?

Or would a custom wind (480ish kv) on 6s be sweeter?

The motor box is tight on the 51 for its battery size. Having one set up with 6s and the other 4s l liked the ease of the single battery 4s. Strapping 2 batts in it was somewhat of a pain.
