Are you sure about that? I have seen many people run digital servos with 20oz or less of torque and had great results. The reason I'm asking is I have a JR S185 servo that I was going to run on my Trex at 6v which will give it 13.1oz of torque with a speed of .06/sec.

Slap it on. If it is not adequate, put chinese weights on your tail. Did wonders for my tail.

You can get some great deals on the futaba 9650 It was the tail the pros used, but sence Futaba came out with new ones which some flyers don't see as a improvement . It seems to be a great deal.

Do you know if these balls will work for the mod?

Sure any fast servo will work but for how long. The tail servo takes a beating because it never gets a rest. You will be pushing a weak servo and they get hot.
It comes down to reliability and peace of mind.

tell me about it. I started with a old 80's high speed servo on my tail a futaba fp-s132h and after about 6 flights in HH it would spin to the left and when I took it off it would spin to the right. Thought the cheap gyro was to blame, but no it was the servo.

Yes, those Align balls will work. I suggest using the stock blade grip holes using a long 2mm bolt and nut.

Here's what I did using bearings and some Tamiya Mini 4WD screws and nuts.

Don't know an exact number, but having used servos in the 17-30oz they ALL had their limits (especially with backwards flight in a head wind). You didn't mention what head speeds your running but if your using 325's with 9 or more deg pitch at > 2500rpm, then I'd really consider something a little stronger. Did you say 13.1 oz, heck that's less than the output of the new mini HS-55 digitals.
