10 mins flight on Scooter, very happy, but can I
Finally, I got three 10 minutes flights on my scooter, very happy. Just wanted to share with you the mistakes I had. And if possible, find some ways to extend the flight time a little bit more.
First mistake, replacing the stock motor with a Speed 400 7.2V motor. It flew only a few minutes, but the battery still had a lot of juice in it. Special thank to DEATHspiral for pointing out this one. Now I switch it back to the stock motor.
Do I need to add capacitors to the motor for noise reduction?
Second mistake, the pinion gear was not tight to the motor shaft. As a result, the 10 teeth gear was lost during flight. Luckily, this Scooter is also a good glider, I can still land it. I then replaced the pinion gear with a 12 teeth.
Now it is running at 2.5:1 gear ratio, APC 9*6, Sanyo 1600mAh NiMH 8 Cells battery, and it has around 10 minutes of flight time. I am not sure if this is normal as I saw some members posted they had 20 minutes of flight time.
With 2.5:1, should I scale back to 10*4.7?
Or if there is still some set up problem?
p.s. thanks Wade for your advice last time.
You might try an APC 10x7 too. That's what I used and got 11-12 minutes at full throttle. Anybody getting 20 minutes is using throttle management and probably thermal aided as well. I personally think only full throttle times should be posted and used for comparisons. Those times have a better chance of being duplicated by someone with the same setup.
