Hacker "Electric Turbine" Heli Motors

Hi all,

I picked this up at the Toledo show this weekend. It is one of Hacker's new line of heli motors, the Electric Turbine (ET) series. This particular one is for the L500 and is an A40 10L 8 pole, 1100 KV design inrunner (no rotating outer can).

Installation and test flights will commence this week. Updates will be posted as available. I will compare it directly to the standard A40 10L 8 pole in a Vbar'd L500 on 10s a123's.

Est Cost ~$150
ETA 6-8 weeks

More pics and numbers to follow. As always, many thanks to Hacker/Aeromodel!

Looks good , not a bad price. Are you going to use a duct like the pictures from Vegas? Keep us informed.

hey , Well I did find out a few things about it , its a outrunner inside a stationary can , and also it still gets up there in heat ( 160 to 170 degrees F ) but not as bad as a standard Hacker A 40-10L . Well for me , I was sure hoping for a motor I can use back to back flying when I go out to the tundra and fly! I cant wait to get one though! 315 grams , it sure is beafy! also the A 50 -12L also tips the scales kinda heavy , 465 grams! buts it seams different than a standard A 50-12 as far as specks , Well! I will see later on when my season starts.

Hacker Electric Turbine "Rumors"

Hi Tony,

Interesting you KNOW so much about the A40 Electric Turbine? Wasn't one in USA until last week!

While meeting with Mr. Hacker for couple days here in Toledo, He explained the first actual production was only made available both in Germany and here in the USA during the last 8 days.

RE: Temps- The Hacker A40 Electric Turbine is a cooler running Variant of the A40-10L "8 Pole" Outrunner. I am sure during the next couple of weeks we will get the ACTUAL performance and temperature reports from the field.

What you witnessed at Las Vegas, was a prototype Hacker A50 Electric Turbine that Andy Rummer was running, in fact we have 2 other samples of A50 Electric Turbine that are running much COOLER (Using standard canopy and motor mounting) than the temperature of the one Andy was Testing at Vegas.........

I do not have a scoop. I do not feel that I'll need one.

There is no comparison between the A40 10l 8 pole and its predecessor. The 8 pole version, in my setup (RT 550's, Vbar, 10s a123, ~2200 HS), runs ultra cool. Last week, after about 25 minutes of straight flying (just enough downtime to changes packs), the little 8 pole was 88 F, ambient was 50 F. I've never had an electric motor in anything that ran that cool after that much continous use. The older (10, 14 pole ?) version would usually run about 150 F after 6-8 minutes.

I have been testing the composite A50 size electric turbine for a few weeks now and can assure you there are no over heating issues. We are still working on the optimal KV and gear ratio for this motor but the temperature is very cool.

Renewed interest

With the heat issues Mr Hacker has experienced in the past (with heli motors)it seems he has now bought in an outsider to help (design) with these motors. I cant wait to hear more as they become available to the paying public.

HIROBO electric conversion A50-12L ET

I actually had for quite a while the idea to convert my Hirobo Schweizer into a electric one. After a lot of calculation and discussion with other fanatics i found that all conversion kit brought the same problems. The motor and also sometimes the ECS"s got extremely hot. Please thing about that roller and ball bearings have max operation temperature (about 65 degr C). So I tried it and failed. My new conversion kit got also hot. I changed to a A50-12L Electric Turbine (turbine only refers to the way of cooling, it is a outrunner motor). But the torque output is impressive. With a 11 tooth pinion it gives about 2000 RPM Rotor speed maximum. I used only 1880 by 6 cell LIPO. The Motor and ESC stays for a period of 6 min (as far I tested) hovering quite cool, take-off weight about 4.8 KG. Actually I made a small clip about the first flight. (andreasahrendt@netvigator.com)

Just by looking at the picture, am I correct that "Electric Turbine" is just the marketing name? From what I can tell, it's just another out runner motor, with cooling fan builtin. Please correct me if I am wrong.
