well, just got a deal on magister RTF. I wanted to wait for mentor or the cub, but it was too good a deal to pass up. $130 shipped . I will basically gut it/sell the things I don't need and build it up as brushless/lipo setup.

Back to 'holding'

Well, after receiving an e-mail telling me that mine would be shipped within the next 24 hours (assuming everything in my order was in stock), I'm now told that I won't get it until early to mid August. IMHO, since I had not INTENDED to "backorder", and at the time of order was told all was available, I'm a bit miffed. That's a first from my favorite "LHS", and really cuts into the time I'd planned to spend flying with my grandson before he returns to school. Disappointing, but then, it's an election year, so I'm accustomed to disappointments.

Hey guys I was looking at the mentor as my first plane - the guys at the club said a 40 size trainer is good to start with.

Question is there is no build thread or anything - what kit to put in it? I have 3S1P 2200 lipos for my heli so i could use two of those in 3S 4400 config. What motor and ESC would suit? And what size servos?

Cheers

My recommendation is to go with the power set that Multiplex sell for this model. I use it and it works great. Includes motor, ESC and prop. Regarding servos. 4 are needed. Again I suggest you go with Multiplex from same LHS you get the model from. They will just drop in. You 3S2200s will be fine, but I would parallel two of them together to get a good flight time. How you do that depends on the connectors you use.

Hi ditchit - where did you buy yours from?

I was looking Sussex Model Centre but their power set is brushed and i would rather go brushless from the get go?

You running brushed or brushless?

Mine is brushless outrunner as intended for the Mentor. The brushed set is probably for the Magister. Try West London Models. They are normally cheaper anyways.

Hitec HS82mg's are also a drop in fit for the wing servo's & Spektrum
DS821's fit in the body for the tail surfaces. Just another option.

I'm going with the recommendation of AH as noted in posting#58 here . We could make this a build thread to supplement the German thread mentioned a lot earlier as here . I expect mine in a week or two (I hope).

And while the thread is active can I ask anyone who comes across a spare canopy to drop me a line. Thanks very much. Seems Multiplex did not go to the effort of making spare parts on their first production run. I've tried all the local UK dealers with no success.

So the Mentor has individual aileron servos as opposed to the Magister's one?

Yes. Separate aileron servos.

Hey guys just to let you know I ordered ny Mentor today - cant wait till it comes!

Spec is gonna be:

Scorpion HK-3026-12 Motor
Scorpion Commander 90A ESC
2 x Multiplex Mini HD Servo
2 x Multiplex Tiny S Servo
A123 3S 4600MAH Packs

It will be a tad heavy compared to LIPO set up but I am sure if it can tow a 3m glider with no problem then it can carry a few hundred grams extra battery!

This is my first plane so gonna be a mild beginner set up buit with a bit of power in reserve.

Hello,
I just ordered a Mentor today and hope to get some good info from all of you guys.
I got a Rim fire 35-36-1200 but I don't think it will be any good for this plane, well that's what motocalc8 seems to say. Hope someone makes this a build thread so I can see and learn.
