Depron Eagle

Quite a few years ago I built an Eagle Glider from polystyrene foam with brown paper covering, balsa 'body', and curled ply wing tip feathers, a flat tail and a clear perspex fin.

It was for towline/bungee launching, and was about the nearest thing you could get to bungying a propeller. Or come to that what would happen if a real Eagle got a leg caught in a bungee. As you can probably guess, it didn't fly.

So move on some probable 10 years plus and the EPP Eagle appears in the Foamie (Kits) forum. Ah! thinks I, I have some recently bought Depron.......so......

After quite a wait for calm weather and available time to match, at last I flew it this morning.
It will need the CG moving forward a little, but was quite flyable with all my down trim in, and is very stable yet quite maneuverable.

Some details -
59" span over the tip 'feathers'.
Weight 20oz with a 1700 3s lipo.
Motor 2408-21 turning an 8x4 HD prop.
Approx wing loading 4.4oz/sq.ft.

The base of the wing is 6mm depron with a balsa spar, then 3mm depron wrapped over it to form a 'section'. The fuselage, (should that be 'body'?), and tail are 6mm as well.
The wing is in two part for easy transport and rubber bands to the 'body'.

So far only one flight of about 15 minutes, powering up in a nice spiral, then just gliding around.

Here's the pictures.

Wow....very good looking bird! I read the info on the kit eagle, but did not get one as I really enjoy building from foam. How is the glide rate? It looks like a blast to fly. Any plans or videos would be outstanding!

It has to be beautiful flying in the air.

Sorry there are no plans, I'm a 'roughly mark out some lines on the material and start cutting and gluing' type of modeler.

I used a picture of the EPP Eagle and guessed the rest. My principle is, if 1/4" difference doesn't matter, probably 6" wont either.

Here's a crude picture, (well I did it using Paint, so don't expect much), of how I made the wing, which is about 80% of the bird.
