mario,
i just weighed my new 4#3 2.4ghz and it weighs 46grams with canopy and battery.
the MIA weighed 52grams with lipo and no canopy. man you need to make it lighter.
the carbon frame sounds like a must!

46 grams! excellent. They shaved 2+ grams off going to the 2.4ghz 4in1.

That sounds great John. I think maybe they shaved in the electronics. Is the 2.4GHZ version same architecture as the regular 4#3? Frame, servo layout, gear meshing, motors? Size of electronics 4 in 1 unit? battery, etc.

The metal parts will add considerable weight. If the servos were 1/4 the size and weigt, they are now, I would be a littel more at ease saying oh yeah metal parts, but I know better, that at this scale, and with the present equipment, there are still some compromises. There always is.

Now my present setup may not be as small as the stock, not anymore , but it is flying easier and probably with the same duration because, Note, that by increasing the rotor diameter by a fraction you get a lot more lift and this in a sence makes the helicopter lighter per rotor disk loading. I am also using a smaller pinion.

I am thinking about your suggestion about doing some carbon frames. I would just hate to hide most of the frame with the servos which mainly populate most of the frame. I will get back to you on this.

everything looks the same. same layout and servos. the rx maybe a little lighter but everything else is the same. other people i've talked to say they would buy your frame if it weighed less. more like stock weight. i know that's asking alot. but the most important thing to customers out there is flight time(longer not shorter) then performance then looks.
hope you change to carbon and it needs to loose like 6 grams of weight. and i know your cool looking canopy weighs more than stock one.
i know your not looking at high volume sales but over-all performance is paramount here.

Mario, Is it possible to make the frame a little smaller? That might bring the weight down some. One of the things that is holding me back from buying it is it's size. I prefer the stock size, but I really like your frame and canopy design.

Nice handling on the vid Mario!!
That auto-stablizer function really has it acting smooth...

Can your wooden blades be attached to the stock bladeholder? From the looks of your pics it seems possible

Hey Mario are you able to add bell-hiller mixing on the fly bar mod? The Hirobo SRB Quark uses the same flybar system but with Bell Hiller Mixing. It seems to be able to do FFF very well with no pitch up tendencies.

These videos these will help answer some questions which have been asked, in particular to the rotor head.

The flight video was posted ealier, if you are new to this post, retrace a few posts back, in this thread, to find it. It will also be on the same page below, under Walkera 4#3 Videos tab.

Took my first couple flights this evening. I like how it feels more stable than with the stock frame. Sometimes it feels a little under powered with the stock motor, but that could be just me being easier on the sticks. I did notice that some of my glue spots came loose during a semi heavy crash. I will have to be sure to treat this frame with a little more respect than I was the stock frame. Does anyone have any recomendations on that?

On the frame I added a little heat shrink tube on the skids to help protect the tips, and changed my antenna wire to a blue one, as my original one was starting to crack in some spots. I have noticed that Cat 5 wires seem to work great for this heli.

Mario, great job on a great frame. I will have to buy one of your canopies next, as the stock canopy looks a little hokey on the heli now.
