I'm going out now, and may be gone for some time....

....ever wondered of the true cost in a bottle of wine?

Try:
15hr days
90hr weeks
4hrs of sleep a day
Nightshift
A whole day of slave labour without any breaks
Constantly wet, tired, grumpy, sleep deprived
Never get to see your other half for 2 months
Cuts, bruises, broken bones
Always hungry, thirsty and sunburnt
Broken relationships
etc etc etc

Harvest is just about to start here in NZ, so I'll be disapearing for a few weeks, without any spare time for sleeping and eating let alone surfing RCG or flying my own planes. Every year thousands of people go through this (sometimes twice) for the love (and money) of wine. If you've ever complained about the cost of a bottle of wine, consider what had to go into it other than just the grapes. The personal cost is very high, and here in NZ our harvest *only* goes for 6 weeks or so (I've done a 12 week one in Aust).

Have a fly for me........

My buddy is a winemaker here in Santa Barbara and I can relate! Harvest is a pain! Like tax season, but with less accountants (I think?)

Good news is that it doesn't last forever, and you and we will eventually get to enjoy the fruits of your labors!

You know I was just bi@#$ng to my wife about the cost of her favorite wine as we drank our last bottle of Beaujoleis Nouveau...only comes out once a year. Now I guess I'll have to keep my mouth shut about it..or at least occupied drinking some more wine.
And to all of you who strive to make this a happier place...we salute you!

No, but forklifts, tractors, presses, crushers and augers certainly don't ask questions. Then there's slippery floors, hoses to trip over........There have actually been a few deaths in the winery (2 this year in Australia ) so it's actually a pretty dangerous place to work. There's also the water and electricity, I've had a few tingles most years just to wake me up in the morning .

Hell no, everything has to be accounted for and the bean counters want to make as much money as possible from the little they have.

Its still stronger than your beer..........and the UK is our biggest market, so they must like something about it
