S&B Me163c mods

hi all,
anyone out there got any suggested mods to the Me163c airframe. I am about to begin covering the fuselage and am wondering if a bit of crashability could be traded for weight by hoolowing out some of the fuselage.
Am also wondering about the battery fit, that cavity seems mighty full with battery, rx and ESC. Has anyone tried alternate positions like in the wing.

Hi Sam

I didn't catch which battery you are using. I used 8x500AR or 600AE. Two sticks of 4.

My 555 receiver sits on a "shelf" above the front tip of the wing. The esc and battery fit nicely in front and below that.

I also tried my Kontronik 400/22 and the semi scale 6x4. Then I had to use 8x1400AE or AR to get it close to balancing. It was faster and better vertical, but too heavy for me. It lost its' light feel and wallowed around at anything less than full throttle. I'm going back to 6v 400 and 5x4 Gunther and 8x500AR greenies..5 minute flights are alright.

I'm using a 7 pack of 600AE. The main problem I have is that my reciever (HAS-3MB) just doesn't want to fit. I tried burying it under/in the wing but I won't be able to remove it if I ever want to change recievers.
How did you manage that shelf, there seems to be very little room to carve a space out with a scalpel.

Stupid gravity!

Carve open the battery bay. I've got an FMA Quantum and 8X1300CP cells sitting in there.

Don't know what mine weighs. I think I left just enough foam above the point of the wing to act as the "shelf" for the receiver to sit on. As Docphi says, you have to whittle out room for your flight pack. It takes a bit of patience and fitting. I have room for the 8x500AR or 600AE lying on its side, and the Kontronik Easy 3000 either beside it or on top . The Deans Ultra plug connector on the other side of the battery. Sometimes I just lay it(the esc) on top as there is much room under the canopy. Depending on battery size.
I currently have robbed the gear for another plane, so cannot send installation photo.

I hope this is of some help. Al
