Discussion
ESC with Idle function
I recall a discussion some time ago about flow rates of water from cooling outlets on scale ships. This may be a cheap way ($8.00) to have waterflow when the main drive motors are stopped & have a proportional flow rate with the speed of the main drive motors.
It's an aircraft ESC with idle mode for that scale appearance on the taxi way. Connected with a Y harness to the main drive ESC it can control the water pumps in the desired fashion. I'm sorry if these were mentioned but I can't find the original thread & ijust came across these by chance & thought they might be of interest. Maybe someone can think of other uses for them in the world of boats. I can't but there must be something. I just realised they may not like having a reverse signal pushed into them. I'm sure someone can figure out how to block that. Anyway it was just a thought. Oops. Forgot the link. Sorry. http://www.r2hobbies.com/proddetail.php?prod=rcps51601 Best regards. Paul. |

Water discharge
I used an electric fuel pump connected via a bridge rectifier (to give the pump continuous flow even when the motors were backing) with the addition of a diode to connect a AA battery pack of two cells to the pump when the voltage output of the ESC went below 3 volts and even when zero volts.
The pump worked continuously, drawing from the two AA batteries only when the ESC voltage fell below the zener's threshold. I cooled nothing with it, just used it to simulate the engine overboard discharge on my fast attack boat. The faster the engines ran, the stronger the flow overboard was.... all proportional to the speed to the boat. When at zero speed, the flow was greatly reduced but still evident. John |

That sounds like a clever idea. Any chance of a diagram to make it clearer for us non technicaly minded souls? Toesup. Yep. That's exactly the conversation I was thinking of. I see you got it all worked out. So is there a use for on ESC with Idle function in the model boat world? Kind regards. Paul. |
