I managed to fit .52s mine, running counter rotations 12x12 and two 6s 5000mah. It has gps 158mph and still flys great!

NIB kit on eBay for $582 shipped. Dang! I have been trying to catch one of these for over 4 years now and it's nuts how much the kits are bringing. I even emailed Horizon last year requesting a re-release of the kit; and gave them proof of two overpriced DW's on fleabay. I'll keep searching...

Thanks for you comments racer and crash. I messaged Jason M today. There is a nicely built one near me (~20 miles), but the owner will not sell it. It's equipped with Robart gear, Power 32's, 60 amp ESC's and flies on 4S. Sadly the owner hasn't flown it since 2014. To help ease my hunger, I bought a new, built but never flown Ultra Stick 25e that I fly on 5S, Power 32 with a 10x10 prop (LR-1A POGO setup).

Hi all. I saw a Deuce the other day at the field and was amazed at the speed smooth flying that thing could do. Did some homework on the Net and ended up here realising my chance of getting one was very slim!! I went into Model Flight shop (Here in Australia) and was telling the shop guy.. He said.. I know where a Deuces Wild is now and with that he brought one out.. A little wrinkled but other than that, perfect!!. E flite 32 motors, 60AMP ESC's & Robart air retracts.. I of course couldn't resist and boom.. it was in my car on the way home. I have spent a day going over everything and tidied and swapped out a few components that looked dodgy.. It was also fitted with JR servos all round!! The old girl is now ready for flight when some fresh 4S batteries arrive... They are a beautiful plane and I look forward to flying it.. I normally fly glow & gas, however this was one elec that I just had to have!! If anyone has any thoughts in regard to a separate UBEC off a 2s for rx power, I'd love to hear it. It currently has the right ESC as master providing the power via the red positive to rx. Other side obviously has the red removed and power only fed to the left motor via esc.

Internal vs external BEC is IMO one of those personal preference things with no clear cut technical answer either way. For me, based on several 6+ servo models and some servo wattmeter testing, I'm confident that a 4 to 5A BEC is a) adequate b) at least matches a 5 cell Eneloop pack (which would be pretty common for glow models this size) and c) is a lot less complex than another battery to keep charged and more components and connections. Regardless of your choice for primary receiver power, in an irreplaceable model like this I'd suggest some sort of backup/redundancy on the rx power. I use a Scorpion Backup Guard on all my 60 + size models and gliders big ebnough to carry one. They're available here https://www.amainhobbies.com/scorpio...sc-bug/p239994 AMain is good/cheap for shipping small items to AU |

Thanks Scirocco.. thanks for your insight in this.. I have ordered some 12 x 8 s to give a little more clearance on the grass.. I'm sure the club likes the free grass mowing but not sure I want to be changing props every flight.. yep agree she's vintage and needs some redundancy built in.. I'll check out the link you posted.. appreciate the advice.. Nikko

It looks like I've just bought a Deuces Wild on Ebay, completeand fitted with DS821s, BL2826 850kv motors, 60A escs and Robart air retracts. Having skimmed through some of the 250 pages of this thread I don't see many gotchas on the model type, is there anything other than the motor bulkheads that might need attention?

I bought an older one at a swap meet about a year ago, set up with 32 motors, Castle 60 ESC's, and air retracts. They are great flying planes, no bad habits that I have found. The air retracts have never worked, I guess have a bad connection or bad o-ring somewhere, haven't gone thru it to figure it out yet, just locked gear down. But if I were you, I would go with electric retracts.

I'm pretty sure I have enough electric trike units to replace the Robarts. Between EFlite, Lado or Hobbyking units, I should have it covered.
Now, when is spring due? Our field is currently saturated, can't get a car near it and it's too soft to mow so it could be a while before I get to try it. How I envy those with tarmac strips! |
