G'day all,
Thanks for the comments.
The fluro orange and black make a good contrast up in the air.
Cool vids jeff, good stuff.

Lee, as Dekan said I'm using just Rudder, Elevator and Throttle.
Built to goldguys design you can't go wrong, the nutball really does fly fantastic as is.
I'm hoping to get some video on my next day off if the weather is good.

Is it just me or does the nutball make you want to do crazy things that you wouldn't normally do like trying to fly through small gaps, around trees, goal post etc? Good Fun!
I guess it is called the nutball!
Maybe a nutball postal comp could be the go?

Hey Tas.... NB comp? well, there just might be a "Prettiest" one comin soon, as for a NB postal, that to, might be in the works, for later this summer..... You just never know what I'm gonna come up with.
Our Dart Postal, while a little late in getting set up, seemed to meet with good reception, and we did have 6 who actually entered and had a ball... So, now, maybe a NB one....
And, speaking of competitions.... one of the local RC clubs, Otterville RC flyers, (Here in Ontario, Canada..) have a yearly competition, "Fly through the Barn Door".. Now this aint yer standard old Barn, no sir, it's a special one they built a few years back and so far, no one has made it through.... Prize now, I understand, is up to $1000.00.. Hey, NBs?, sheesh, wonder if they will allow these, heck they are planes, of sorts....
Must contact em and see........ 1G would by a lot of EPP or Depron, eh?

Rudder, Elevator, Throttle....Now why didn't I figure that one out on my own
Anyway, thanks for clarifying that for me.
I have another question for those of you who built the 20" version. How wide did you make your wingtips? I found Goldguy's calculations for the dihedral of different sized wingtips, but couldn't find how wide to make them. The 17" version uses 4" wingtips, so the 20" would use approximately 4.75" wingtips?

wattmeter readings question

A question: I have a watt-meter and a 24g Lazertoyz "blue wonder" outrunner
What should the maximum sustained current reading be on a static test with a prop?
My guess is to not exceed 7Amps on a sustained basis.

FINALLY, SUCCESS!!!! After moving the motor up on the fuse stick, in line with the wing, I test flew it yesterday, and, IT FLEW!! So, from now on, NB's will have the motor in the right place....
Also flew my grandsons 30" NB, with the old GWS Brushed 400 motor/ 10/47 prop, on a 7.4V lipo.... AND, it flew, slowly, enough for him to start learnin on. He was grinin from ear to ear.
Gad, maybe another MAAC Member is in the offing....
So, if at first you don't succeed, try try try again, which is what I have done, and am now a firm believer of NB's.... (Oh ya, and the darts still fly...)
You won't believe this tho.... put all my stuff, including the 12"er on my workbench in the garage, and while doing so, knocked the can of paint thinner over, spilling on my 12"er... Didn't realize this till this morning and couldn't figgure out what the smell was but soon found out... Boy, does that EPP absorb liquids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn! Talk about floppy, you aint seen nuttin yet, Ollie!

Hey Art,

Glad to hear you got that thing figured out. I knew ya would!*G*
I have a 30" Nutball with brushed gear (GWS300C w/D gear drive), 12/6 prop
and 2s lipo's that is the slowest, best behaved air frame yet. Wonderful
trainer. I got my Godson learning on it. I more recently built a 20 inch Nutball
with a bluewonder, 8/4 and 2s that is as different as night and day. It's a real
hoot to fly, fast or slow and a great stunt trainer. Warm regards, Jim

I'm sort of a part of the NutBall club. I built a 20" one about 3 weeks ago. The maiden was terrible. Had the cg way off. Also changed the motor thrust line. I'm ready to go but the gosh darn wind. Been gusting between 10-30 mph every day. Uncommon for this time of year. Hopefully a better report soon.

Art, I am really glad you got that thrust issue taken care of. I really didn't find out about that until Frank was sporting the NB. I moved my motor up on the squirt but slid over to the NB as it flew a little better already tweaked by a master designer.

Tassie Nutball!

G'day All,
It was a beautiful day today in Tasmania for NutBalling!
Perfect weather, calm all day. Put 11 packs through the NB!
Got the Mrs and my daughter to come along and snap some pics and video.
Here's the pics, (yeah there's a few )
I'll post the video when I get time to edit it.

Art, congrats on getting you NB flying right!
$1000 would definitely make a couple of NutBalls!
I reckon with the stability of the NB you could win it for sure!

Fuzzyhead I like your paint scheme, hope you have better luck when the weather calms down.

Anyway I better go do some work, video to come soon!

Hey, Taz,
Give us some specs. What motor, prop, battery, AUW, Wing Span, and how did you mount the landing gear? It looks great. ~ ThickThumbs

Specs were posted a few pages back Here
Here they are again.

Specs :
10mm epp
1300kv blue wonder
10 amp esc
1047 prop
900mah 2s lipo
corona rx
5g servos
AUW 8.2oz

The landing gear is from a spare slow stick kit I had lying around.
I just cut a notch in the bottom of the motor stick and it slips right into the towerpro motor mount. A bit of CA and it's good to go.
Seems to work well so far.
I'll get a pic for you when I get home from work.

Tas... Just got the info on this "Fly through the Barn" thing... It's one of our local clubs and the opening is 24" X 48".... Now I don't know if thats perpendicular, or horizontal, non the less, my 17" NB should master this... If only the pilot could... going to practice with a frame of that size, at our field, up to contest time, hopefully by then, I'll have it mastered.... ha ha..... Yep, 1000 bucks sure would buy a lot of stuff, motors, ESC's, batteries, and of course, EPP.....

Art: Arn't you forgetting gratuities for the NutBall factory foreman?

Taz: Seems Nutballing has become a family affair. Fun machine eh? The more pictures and video that get up here, the more others will give one a go and join in on the fun.

At our regular twice weekly flying sessions, more NBs are showing up than anything else lately and more in the works. What most seem to enjoy is it's 'flyability' and what they can do with something so around or go crazy.

Just tuning up my float fly foamies for summer and have an extra set of floats, so.............

Great looking Nutball! I have been wanting to build one of these out of 9mm EPP and I have a 1300 Blue Wonder, so your posts have put me over the edge.

Looking forward to your video to see how it flys.
