Just bought a used swift. Need you input

I just got a used Swift. It came with 3 futaba s3151, Zpower Z30a-800 motor. hvesc and a berg7 rx. Is anyone else using a berg7 rx in there heli? I dont know if I want use that.

Also what are my batt options, besides 4-5s. I dont have a charger that can charge a 4s or 5s lipo. At least right now I dont.

I dont understand what a a123 batt is, except they come from a dewalt batt.

How are the NiMH the book recomends? I plan to fly some mild 3d.

Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks Rene

I used a berg 7 in my hurricane 550 for a while before I switched over to 2.4ghz. I don't recall ever having a glitch with it. Was really solid for me.

Thanks! I have never used one, wasn't sure how they were. What type of crystal do they take?

Get a decent lipo charger, either a ThunderPower 1010c or an Xtrema along with a capable balancer- I have an Xtrema and I'm very happy with it. Skip 4 and 5S and go right to 6S 3700mah packs for 3D. I run 6S 4900/5000mah packs- good for soft/mild 3D with longer durations (12 to 15 minutes). True, some 3D can be done with 4 or 5S, but it's very hard on the packs and you might get as much as 4 or 5 minute durations.

I've never had any probs with berg, should work fine.

From what I've heard the Swift should be able to handle a NiM pack fine.

Any pics of the heli?

You may have to make a battery tray for the NiM batts, how are they going to be held to the underbody?

BTW, if you're going to buy the batts new, go for the Lipos if at all possible.

The Berg is as slid as any 2.4 I have seen and I have and used both.

Sounds like you need to doa little reading on batteries until you know what you want.

You need 7 123 cells to equal 6 lipos.

I have a couple of Berg-7 receivers. I have used them on small T-Rex helicopters with no problems. The crystal is critical on the Berg if you change frequencies be sure and get one of the new Castle Creations Berg crystals.

As with any electric helicopter make sure that you separate the radio and power system components as far as possible.

COOL! I'm glad to hear that about the berg. One less thing to buy.

Should I use a bec or a RX batt?

That'll hold until ...

I've got 5 Bergs on helis and never a glitch!

I've tried both but prefer to run BECs. I went to A123 and found that keeping a seperate RX battery charged was a pain, when my main packs charge in less than 20 mins. Either way works fine.

That motor is a Z30A 800KV, You really need to run it at an 8s lipo or a 10s A123 setup to really see its potential. 6s lipo will work but if you don't want to spend the dough on an 8s lipo, Go with the Dewalt 36 volt battery and it will be a 10s A123 setup out of the package. Just do a search on here to see how many have disassembled the batteries and made packs out of them.....Ron

Hi, have you flown your Swift yet? I think That I almost bought that one. The former owner had that clear lexan front end for mounting A-123 packs, 7 or 8 cell I believe.
BTW, the Swift that I wound up buying came with a Berg 7 Rx mounted in it.
