Well done

Im highly impressed with your all flying elevator and your knife edge flying skill and at 4ozs,, light ship

Those tip plates are radical , but the model seems to work so well

What is your modelling background , you seem fairly young ?

thank you

Everybody, thank you!

I am 46 years old. The pilot of video is not me.

The plates of the slant attached to wings are vortex generator.
they prevent exfoliations of an air current

You will notice some f3p planes attaching such plates.

Yoshito, I'm really pleased that you have started a thread about this model.

I've been flying a scratchbuilt version of the SouthernX-AM for 6 months now, and it's one of the nicest models i've ever flown. It will knife edge with virtually no mixing, and locks into a hover perfectly. It's also the slowest and most precise model i've flown.

Thanks to Yoshito and Masayuki I now have a genuine kit which I am building. The kit is very nice, all the parts are laser cut and the hardware package included is great. Masayuki dispatched the kit on a Tuesday and it was delivered to me in the UK on the Thursday! 2 days from Japan to England is amazing!

Be sure to have a look at Mr. Sekiai's page and download his SouthernX-AM model for the FMS simulator. It's very realistic :"_blank

I've attached some photos below to show you some details of the kit I received.

Ouch! $63 for the kit plus $36 for shipping. I guess the main ouch is the shipping.

So with the tips and front in EPP this becomes a durable plane? I don't care much for the extreme flexibility of an all EPP plane. I also don't like the way my EPP planes have sagged and twisted in my basement and car.

JoeR, I agree the EMS shipping cost isn't cheap, but there isn't really any markup on the shipping. As far as I know it is the only reliable method of shipping from Japan which can be tracked.

The model is quite durable due to the strategic use of EPP. With any EPP model you need to be careful storing and transporting it to prevent the foam warping. It is recommended in the manual that the model is stored hanging from the propeller to prevent the airframe distorting.

This model isn't for everyone, but if you want a competition class indoor model, then this is a good choice.

Thanks firetrappe. I have discovered hanging EPP planes from the prop. It works well.

I'm not a competition level pilot by any means, not even close as a matter of fact, I do believe one of the things that makes for a good flying indoor plane is a very lightweight airframe. It allows one to fly slower and in the small gym I fly that is important. Having a durable plane means I get to fly more in the limited time frame I have to fly in the winter. With the current EPP plane I have its great to be able to go to the gym carrying only one plane and knowing I can fly the whole time without worrying I will wreck it early and not be able to fly the rest of the session. Its happened a few times before having an EPP model. These two issues spurred my interest in this plane.

This looks really nice Yoshito. As I could not get a decent EPP indoor flyer, I built an EPP Clik using .3mm CF. My AUW is around 145g though, and I am sure that I can learn a lot from this model on how to reduce weight further. It is built from 3mm EPP. It is all I fly indoors at the moment, and flies very well.

Si, looks great, are you sure about the dimensions?

Hi Mark, nice Clik! My scratchbuilt SX-AM is also made from 3mm EPP. The photo's below show my initial setup using a UH 10g motor, but i'm now using a Hacker A10-15s. AUW is 120g with 2S350 lipo. And yes, the dimensions are correct....this time

The new kit will probably use a Hacker A10-9L for a bit more thrust, but hopefully the weight will be similar to my existing model because I can use less carbon.

Looks great Si, what is your AUW? I have both of the Hackers, and generally I cant tell much difference between the Hacker and the UH 15g which is what I am using on the Clik. My other Clik (depron) has the Hacker on.

I want to get the SX-AM though as I could do with a little less weight. Will have to be next months plane though... this month is all used up.

The 9L is a different story, but also quite a bit heavier. Probably closer to a blue wonder 1700kv.
