Ken has a 90mm L-39 all composite, and an F-100 super sabre 90m all composite that will be coming out in the future. I love his models. He does some of the best fiberglassing in the biz!!! I have kit #3 for his all molded 70mm L-39 and its on my top two favorite builds.

Retracts

Ken sent me this picture yesterday of the MiG-15 with the retracts installed. He says it really came out quite nice and they will have photo instructions on the retract install.

Cheers

I wanted to thank Greg for starting a post on our new molded MiG-15 airframe and thought I might help out with some of the questions that were being asked.

First off this is the same larger 70mm MiG-15 that we currently offer with some very nice upgrades. I think even Herb would like this one. The airframe is able to use the MAP retracts and the retract mounts are pre-installed in the wings for you. We came up with a pretty good way of doing the front nose gear which makes it easy to install and leaves plenty of room for your equipment. The idea here was to keep it simple.

Here are a few photo's of the retracts and splitter that we came up with.

Now that clears it up a bit .

My first reaction to the statement that he would be able to fit a nosegear retract in there was disbelief knowing how tight it is in there, but I did not want to post it ...

Now I see from your pictures that you actually thought things through and made the necessary changes. Very nice! I think this way it should work.

i messed with 90mm in mine long ago and its just not a good option. very bad FSA no former left after hogging, and tons of weight not needed on this airframe size. I had 609 in mine even and that to me is not a good proposal either, you can get as much power with less wiegh tout of a 70mm nowadays no prob.

I like thee retract install! those map are very small footprint so they open up a lot of options that were not there before. Awesome job Ken, need to get myself another one of these soon.

How would a WM400 do in this Mig?

Bob,

As for a 90mm fan unit the answer is both yes and no right now. Yes you can use a 90mm fan unit and it fits just fine but we are not sure if we can use the retracts when using this size fan unit just yet.

Some might remember that when this Mig-15 airframe came out way back 9 years ago the fan unit that was being used was a 90mm and 20-2000 size nicad cells. Yep 20 of them. The plane had an all up weight of 80 oz and flew around 150 mph. You can still find the video somewhere here on the zone. They were flown at the Mid Winter Electric flyin at San Deigo.

What we need to do yet is mock up an airframe with the 90mm fan unit with the retracts. Then we can see what affect the front inside splitter has if any on the draw of the fan. No one ever thought that a 90mm fan would work in this airframe to start only having a 2 7/8" opening in the front but it not only worked it worked very well.

As for the WM400 fan yes this fan will work very well in this airframe. The fan unit can be moved forward or aft enough to stay within the correct CG location. Also we have seen very good watt readings from this fan unit on a 4S pack.

Yes it flew well, but no space for retracts. But today smaller high quality / high efficiency fans (MiniFan 480, Het-6904, DS-30 and of course HW-609) deliver plenty of power though due to improvemnets in motor technology. One or the other, but not both

Ken,
After Steve gave one of the planes to me, I installed 24 x 2400 SCR's and Aveox 1415. Yeah baby, those were the days!
Hmm... maybe that's why I ended up needing back surgery?

Very nice work. I like it too.

im with herb! a hot 70mm could put out almost as much power but with much less weight.

@Ilike I have been using kontronik 480-33 on 4s or Medusa 56-2800 on 5s. The 5s is a screamer!
