Ahhh.... great flying I'd recognize those powerlines anywhere
She lands very well considering all the weight and power you added; nice job!

Here's the maiden flight of an AirField EPO 1450 MM P51 Marie with a Scorpion 4025 - 740 running on 8S. The prop was a 11 x 8. Voltron measured 119.3 MPH. Still have 2 more cells to add but I need to upgrade to an HV ESC and those things are expensive. This thing is a knee shaker for a foam plane..

Well, after trying a few other fast planes with poor results, I finally decided to purchase the SD 50, and so glad I did. The Sundowner 50 has proven to be everything I had heard it was. This plane flies like it's on rails, is fast and relatively easy to fly.

I used what I thought was a fast setup, a Scorpion 4035-500, 8s 40c pack, and 12x12 prop. I am very pleased with this combination and would highly suggest this plane for anyone looking for a fairly inexpensive RC thrill.

Has anyone had any concerns about the Sundowner 50 wings twisting with aileron deflection at high speed?

My Flying Indycar

Here's the latest speed experiment with Marie. Swapped out the prop configuration on 8S. Want to know what a 740kv motor sounds like on 8S?
The GPS at the end of the video logged 132 mph.

Sorry about some of the camera shots. This was my maiden on my homemade head camera solution. Still need to adjust the angle a bit but not bad for zero investment since I got the camera free.

Hi Vantage,
There was some discussion of it here: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...=pound&page=90
Seems like it's only an issue at really high 150mph+ speeds.
Hope that helps,
Josh

Maiden = success!

After lurking on here since forever and procrastinating on the maiden for fear of crashing such a pretty plane, I finally got my bird in the air. Scorpion 4025-10 & Castle Ice 100 on 6s 5000's with a 12x12 APC. Honestly, I don't know what I was so scared of now - this thing is a pussycat. Cruised around at the highway speed limit on half throttle, probably hit about 95 straight and level , and the landings were very predictable.
Had me happy as a clam (why are clams happy? I dunno...)
Looking forward to more fun flights and.....MORE SPEED! Thinking about trying this setup on 7 or 8s. eCalc predicts these numbers below. If anyone has any thoughts, feel free to chime in, especially on takeoff and landing with the extra battery weight.
7s: 5000mAh, 30C, 12x12: 70A; 1660W; 11700rpm; 133mph pitch speed
8s: 4000mAh, 30C, 11x12: 65A; 1750W; 13300rpm; 152mph pitch speed
Happy flying y'all,
Josh

I didn't think you could go above 6S with that motor....

Yeah, that's what the specs say. What has me wondering is that 2000W limit. Seems like it ought to be able to handle the additional heat as long as I stay away from the watt limit, no?
