Pics from Afghanistan

Just figured I'd post some pics of my new home for a year +.

We are at 5000 feet when we are on the ground here in Bagram, Afghanistan. So, you can imagine what its like goin over those mountains!

The sure do look nice though!

Soon I'll post some pics flyin over/through them.

Y'all have to kick in your own door? Settle down!

I am sure you are operating those birds at their limits at those altitudes... It is beautiful, though!

Keep the pics coming.

Stay safe!

Thanks Kmopar... trust me, the "missing you" part is very much shared by me. I guess I wouldnt mind hitting a fly in too though...

As for the pics, yeah, not many trees here... hence most people live in mud houses.

As for kicking in the door... well, there is a story behind that. About a week ago, we were inside, and for some reason the door knob "malfunctioned". The guy outside couldnt get in, we couldnt get out. So, me, being the "mechanical type" busted out the trusty Gerber multi tool and proceeded to litterally destroy the door knob from the inisde. It worked. We all got in/out as we wished. But, we had to put in an emergency work oreder to get a new door knob.

As for cold, yeah, -15c the other morning when I went out to fire up a bird for a mission. Then add in the wind from the rotor, and the crew chiefs (standing outside) were friggin frozen. Then, the poor guys have to get in and man the door guns (windows open) while we fly at 120 knots. Talk about cold!

Thanks guys

Enjoyed the shots Laine. Haven't talked to you here before, I just thought you were the nut job that makes 14' planes :-) ! Genuinely appreciate your service and we are all 1000% behind all the the men and women who volunteer to protect and serve our country. Your shots are a beautiful contrast to what I've seen in the media. Keep 'em coming.

Thanks Ken.

Looks like I'll be on QRF (quick reaction force) for the next couple days. So unless something happens where we are "needed" I'll be here, on the ground. However, if something does happen, should make for some cool pictures.

Catch ya'll later.
