lost plane


Good news and bad news... the first flight was great. very fun to fly. Thanks.
Bad news.... On my third flight.. Wind was kind of strong and the plane kept drifting away from me. It was really high in the air and far away from me. The plane became a dot and I couldn't tell which direction it was going. Lost it liked for it for a couple of hours. Couldn't find it...
Id rather see it crash into a million pieces then to go home with no plane. Has that ever happened to you?
When I get home tomorrow I'll post up pics of the plane.

articulatekevin, I've lost a plane on the first flight. coming out of a loop too close to the roof of a building and it disappeared over the top never to be seen again. I've also had a plane taken by the wind only to end up stuck in a tree about 100yrds away.

has anyone experienced flutter in the tailalirons? this happened to me coming out of a high speed dive and resulted in a crash. can anyone tell me how to avoid this? tell me something other than not doing a high speed dive that is

I've had that happen too. The only thing you can do is modify the tail surfaces so that the hings line goes straight across instead of having some of the control surfaces angeling towards the front.

With the straight hinge line what effect does it have your ability to high alpah, if any?

It probably won't change it at all as you still have lots of control surface in the prop wash.

Go look at post 266 and you'll see what happened when I put it in a WOT dive and rolled.

hey pat,
hows everything? hot i bet where you are! im in nice and cool long beach ,ca about 2 miles from the beach even rained yesterday.. weird weather..

anyhow... you told me to get back to you on the cheap ebay batteries. well..... even though its fully charged at 12.4v it doesnt make my motor scream as much as a quality one. is it because its over rated? its a 20c. and power cant be drawn as it should. its actually 10-15c??? whats your theory or already known cause for that?

Hi Kevin,

Sorry for the late reply, was up in Flagstaff for the weekend for a fun fly. It was nice and cool and rainy up there too. Got back here today to 98 and humidity (big storms here last couple of days).

Anyways, I'd say those batteries are probably either very old, or seconds that did not make the QC at the lipo factory. Your best bet would be investing in quality packs like the Hyperions I mentioned before. The 3S 850s are only $17 and last a good long while.

I just did some searching and I am seeing all kind of size packs recommend what the concensus? Ordering stuff up just trying to figure it all out. Got an F-22 and F18 coming. Thanks!

If you are doing the 100% scale versions, then anything from 3S 1300-2200 will work fine. I prefer 1300 because they are lighter and the trade off for the biger packs seems to not matter in speed or endurance. I get about 5 mins on either pack, but performance is better with the smaller one.
