I also am finishing up a 16" version of the Cirrus. What should I be using for a CG?

Here is one more satisfied Cirrus builder!

I redrawn the plane with Alibre Design 3D CAD and cut parts by DIY CNC router.

I used the 1/3rd rule from leading edge and it flies fine.

For most planes, the CG is 1/3 of the wing chord which is measured from the leading edge to the trailing edge at the fuse.

Browsing around found the plans for this beauty of a plane and after reading the thread I made a go at building the micro 16" wingspan version. Using guts out of a UM sukhoi so not the greatest gearwise but it all looks like it is going to work. LOL My first scratch build so hopefully i'm not goofing it up too badly. Will post some pics after I finish it which should be this weekend.

*I know old thread, but what can ya do*

Have a problem with the build. Printed and cut out all the patterns, transferred them to 3 mm depron, cut out the depron and when attempting to match the wing/elevator portion to the fuse/rudder portion I find out one is longer than the other.

Nose to rudder hinge = 29-1/2 " (75 cm)

Nose to elevator hinge = 27" (68.5cm)

Anyone got a correct measurement out there ?????

It is easiest to extend the section with the elevator.

12/1/12--Didn't get an answer so I sectioned in a piece in the fuse/elevator part. Looks good.

Hi Samo,
3M Blenderm surgical transparent tape (25 mm width) is the best hinge tape I have used so far. Last plane I used it for was my RT Sirius Eleven (see images below). The tape sticks very good on depron and is thin and flexeible as needed to be able to use it on both sides of control surfaces for seamless hinging. And throws can be almost 90 deg if one should want that with almost no restistance in the hinges. I just bought a box with 12 rolls now so I have on the shelves at home when needed.
There is also a nice thing with this tape that it is not so sticky to the surface it can not be removed if one slowly take it away - I have done some hinging and was not satisfied at first so I ripped of the tape from the model and made another try. I have not found any better tape then this, it is just as if it was made for our small depron and such planes.
The tape can be found in pharmacy/drugstore or You can also find it on ebay.
