Cirrus photos

Cirrus photos from the Plainview, TX indoor fly-in. Plane flew well. We are doing a club build and have about seven members signed up to complete the Cirrus.

Cirrus 85%

hey all!

for a while now I'm looking to get myself a serious F3P ship. I had some successful designs weighing around 160g-200g. But the urge the get lighter never ceases. so I got myself a 9g motor, 6g ESC, 200mah 2 cells li-po, all economic equipment from hobbycity. servos are 2 bluearrow 2.5g for the tail feathers, and one HXT500 5g servo for the ailerons.

After a few attempts on my own designs, I've decided to try AnthonyF3P's Cirrus. (thanks Anthony!)

as I was aiming at about 80g flying weight, and the motor is not so strong, I've reduced the plans to 85% of the original size, aiming at a wingspan of 70cm.

I use 15 oz/cu.ft styrofoam I got at a construction supplies store. the styrofoam is then cut to 3mm~ plates, using a hot wire. The plates are fragile, and flexible. But it is much lighter than depron. With the correct manipulation of carbon fiber (actually I almost and didn't use CF at all, but only because I don't have it), and masking-tape (the brown type. it is light, and have a stronger adhesive), one can achieve a very strong, or in this case, strong enough result.
To stiff up the wing, as I didn't have a quality CF rods or tubes, I used a 26cm CF rod reinforcement in the center of the wing, and bracings.

In my previous models, when weight wasn't as important, cutting the foam to 6mm plates, and covering it all with brown masking-tape, the result is a non breakable, stiff, almost EPP like (only stiffer) plates.

In the pictures you can see all the foam parts weighing at only 16g. After assembly, with the motor and ESC it is only 50g.

I hope it will be finished by this Friday, so more pictures, maybe a video are to come up then.

Club Build Cirrus F3P

Here is another Cirrus that came from our club build. This one is getting a Park 250 motor, and weighs around 4.2 oz. Should be a great flyer.

In the US, Kinkos can scan images up to 36" accross and scale them to anysize (up to 36" width of course) for about $.75 per sq. ft finished size after trimming.

ATflyer, just take the regular plans to Kinkos, or Staples etc. and just tell them what you want the wingspan to be, and they will make it that size, regardless of what the plans actually show.

You should be fine with this one, just check if the wingspan is the needed one.
