My Steve Shumate minis will be built up replicas just like his originals, only about 66% of original size. All made from 6mm depron still. We also have an F-4 and Saab Gripen in the works too.

About the same size as the mini profiles, around 18" WS average.

thanks for tip. i made control rod supports- from depron. the rods were really flexing. i too thought it was the problem, but it made no difference in the end. i think its just a going slow/ tail heavy problem as it turns better going faster.

CG should be 2" to 2.25" back from the main wing break (see pic).

Personally, I use a 3S 850 lipo in my plane, and it fits nicely right in the middle of the electronics bay. Anything 450 or smaller needs to go way up in the front of the bay to balance correctly. And a 3S lipo really wakes up the power system.

Anomalous - 80 grams is about half what my planes normally weigh. In my opinion, that's way too light. The plane does need some forward motion for the elevons to be effective. Don't be afraid to make the plane heavier. Besides, at about 170 grams it penetrates the wind very well, but can still be flown at slower speeds effectively.

i agree, and it needs a bigger battery so i should end up with more weight in the nose and that will take it over 100 grams AUW. in the mean time i'll add some weight and see if it helps. it does seem rather floaty in flight, and it needs to carry more momentum. im coming straight from making ultra micros where every gram saved is an advantage. still, its easy to add weight

ive now made a full canopy for my f22 out of depron. it slightly differnt to my previous attempt. its geldipac, which might bend to a shape a bit easier.

if anyone wants them i'll draw up and post the shapes to cut out

Jessie,

Here's the set of decals for you for Holloman AFB. All the lettering and symbols go on clear paper, cockpits go on white paper.

Love this 18" mini f22, built one myself and really loved the flying characteristic.
Awesome design!!

Was thinking if there is any plans based on the same built for a slightly bigger wingspan? So that i can fly higher and still see the plane haha...

Really love this F22!

well ive got the correct center of gravity now by moving the small 240mah battery as far forward as possible, and it is MILES better. tracks straight as an arrow on and off power, turns smoothly and reasonably quickly now i know it needs a bit of speed, and its quite fast considering its just a 10 gram motor and 2 cell. about the same as my 2 cell micro sukhoi which is pretty nippy and real fun. unlimited vertical with ease. its very light but breeze doesnt seem to hurt as long as your on the power. i really like it now i know how it needs to be flown. its still only 80 grams but its only got 180 grams thrust. i can see me converting this to 3 cell as i can see it can handle more !!

consider me a pusher jet convert

Glad you got the CG sorted! Yes, it makes all the difference in the world. It's nice have 2:1 thrust isn't it?

yes, got to have good power to weight.

i was hoping for nearer 3:1 as the spec for the motor read 225 grams of thrust on a 5030 but its only about 180. maybe my battery is not good enough. its had some use. shame i cant do a lightweight 3 cell (3 x 240mah) with this motor as its 2 cell only.
