That's almost where I've had mine since I've started sailing...it is a very good starting point....but I think my boat points a little better now with the main closer to centerline...

Bump to keep this Nirvana thread on the first page...

Here's a pic of my fathers Endurance 35 that he recently sold.
We built it together in the early 70's as a father and son project.

Scratchy, you have to build an RC version of that beauty purely for the principle of the father - son project. Even if the Nirvana is a current pond favorite a scale version would carry on the past one.

Plus it'd be easier to maintain. I bet you have to plans somewhere...

Happy RC Sailing,
Doug

Thanks for the words of encouragement Doug.

Actually I did build a model hull while we were building the full size.
Since there was an abundance of Fiberglass and resin, I cut out frames from 1/4" plywood and built a male mold. I waxed it and applied release agent to it and then built a female plug. I turned out one hull from the plug. After having this kick around for more than 10 years, I ended up giving away the plug and hull, which I now regret. The downside was the scale was 1/2" to the foot, so the hull was just under 18" long, not really suitable for a sailing model. I did melt some lead and pour it in the keel, but that's as far as I got. No deck, mast, rudder, etc.

However, as you say, I still have the plans and offsets from my father, so there is nothing preventing me from building a 1/12 scale model, other than time and effort.

BTW, here's a pic from the cover of the study plans:

I agree with Doug that you need to build a RC model of your father/son sail boat. It will bring back many great memories of the fun times that you had with him at this time. Not too many young men have those kind of memories of doing things with their father.

Sailing is fun, fair weather or no

Well, fellas, I hope old Debby is past us, been very windy and up to 6" of rain. That's good cuz our ponds were gettin' low anyhow. Maybe by Wed. I can get back on the water. My Nirvana is making all kinds of groaning sounds just itching to get wet again! Gonna get hot again, too, but I don't care just so I'm sailing!!

Weather here is great but the remaining projects at the new house are still keeping me from getting out to go sailing. Things are shaping up, so it won't be much longer before I am able to get back to sailing and flying.
