p.s. Did we ever tell you, Robert, that Mike actually won third place? There is a process to eliminate ties, I just didn't know it. So Mike is the 3rd place winner. If you have his email/contact info, let him know!"

If Jeff has a problem...he needs to say so...I've mailed him a 3rd place certificate (before I got this email) and let him know the above....I've not heard a peep from him.....nothing!
If it was that close, they are both 3rd place in my view.

Exceptions can be made sometimes I would think.
Don't mean to stir the pot, but let's get real here folks.
Let's not take ourselves too seriously.
If there was even a whole point difference, maybe, but for 3 decimal points??

When you stop and think about it, just what's the matter with "tied for third place"?
Happens all the time.

I should have it done on Sat and will repost.
No soldering on mine.

I woudn't call it a black eye. The regatta was well run. I had a great time with a bunch of great people. To me, third or tied for third means the same thing: I did well and had fun doing it. After the racing is done and the places/awards given out, the thing that lingers afterwards is the good times and memories shared with the other people at the regatta. Where I placed is secondary to that.

Well said Mangus!

While we are all competative and love to win and do our best, at the end of the day its about having fun and learning.

Don't get me wrong, I am still as competative today at 43 as I was in my teens.

Or maybe a Jewelry store.
Good suggestion oldasa, but I'm not really THAT concerned about it.

I was aiming for "LIGHT" and I have achieved that.

"Good enough" as they say in the Rolls Royce plant.

Also simple, easily replicated, and cheap, and it looks good and performs flawlessly.

If there is any room for improvement it would be in acquiring something lighter and flimsier for the ribbon, sort of like some red cassette tape or a strip of red balloon material, that is affected by light winds more than the current red ribbon is.

Which is exactly what I used on the Nirvana ... a piece of video tape from a VHS cassette. Undoubtably light and fairly easy to see most of the time.

Can you help me out here? I must have been out the day of the test? What test?

It's Friday morning which means the Hot Air Balloons are out for tours of the beautiful Temecula wine country. For those not familar with Temecula, it has become one of the leading producers of world class wines and the country side is
amazing. Great place to live or for a vacation. Lots to do here too. Kind of a grey morning but the grey will burn off in an hour and be in the mid seventies today.

Just got the plants in the yard yesterday - we've been in the new house for 2 months now and are about 75% done. Working on the new hobby shop and hoping to have that completed soon, so I can get back to my new boat projects.

Happy Friday all!

Some of us might be interested in cheap carbon rods. Someone just emailed me the following:

Boomer; The formula I use to design hot air balloons; One cubic foot of air heated to 180 degrees Fahrenheit lifts its own weight. Lillieyen, If I can weigh air, your wind indicator would be piece of cake.

I hope no one brings up the subject of "apparent" wind direction. (I dont have an icon to indicate desperation)

Mangus; I forgot to tell you of another hobby I use to have. I have a scale sensitive enough to weigh one square foot of any type wing covering material. Believe it or not, the plastic bags so common in Grocery and department stores is unbelievably light weight. One of the Dollar stores (Dollar General I think) around here has a yellow bag. Perfectly bright color and super light.

Back a few pages.

Your yellow bags comments have got me thinking.
Good idea!

3rd place tie issue

I asked for the regatta results to go back to the original tie for 3rd place. I think it's the right thing to do. I also changed it on all the postings.

You guys ready to see my sail graphics?
