Seabee;
Thanks for the flag Seabee. I don't think Movie studios had a budget big enough to build anything of this magnitude. Right?

Well since the feather is no longer a novel idea...

I think I prefer the "tell-tale" over the windvane anyway. The vane is limited in what it can tell you...ie....wind direction only.

The "tell-tale" can also indicate wind strength as in this pic:

Now that would wow them!

Of course that would be one of those days when there is absolutely no wind, zippo!

Also we'd have to share that pond with the various dad's who show up with their sons, and their new high speed powerboats still in the box, that run for about ten minutes etc. etc.
(Not knocking that, we all have to start somewhere.)

Would take a lot of red tape to get exclusive use though.

But, yes, it would look great "twere" it possible.

I cater to the young uns when I can, as I like to see them get passionate about the hobby, but most are only interested in the go-fast boats, not sailboats.

I had one adult who had been watching for while, take a sudden interest when a gust of wind came along and Nerve Anna spread her "wings" and kicked up her heels a bit, ask me "how fast will she go".
He assumed as many/most do, that it had a motor in it.
Soon as I told him it didn't, he left.

Lake Ontario is only about 100 paces away, if that, from the pond, but it's not always usable. (Water, water everywhere and nary a place to sail)
Some days it's as smooth as a mill pond, and some days the waves are breaking over the 6 foot seawall.
Depends on the weather!

"our" pond

Soon as I win the lottery, I'm going build a giant cement pond just for RC sailboats, on my estate.
All will be welcome as long as they bring only sailboats (or the occasional rescue tug )
NO speedboats allowed!

On the other hand, sailing in a public place is probably more conducive to getting people interested in our sport, while sailing in a secluded venue, is kind of like hiding your multi million dollar art collection in some dusty old mansion.

Who gets to enjoy it?

I'll bet if we are allowed to counter balance the jib boom to neutral swing that would tell a tale too. Can we do that? I've seen it elsewhere.

Counter weighting the jib is NOT allowed in the rules, if you want to race that is....

Go back a page or two and look at Chidago's boat....it allows the jib to swing open effortlessly.....nevermind here is the pic....

Just painted still wet...

...and if this is Krylon Satin...I wonder what the Gloss Black looks like?

I really didn't want a super glossy surface...but it is what it is.

5 light coats and 5 medium coats...after I wet sand her she will be real pretty.

Which Krylon are you using? Primer and paint.

Fusion?

You can always apply a matte clear coat to it. They also make it in a Satin finish to kill the shine.
